  1. If Sidis fit me (standard = too wide, narrow, which I'd need = funny toe box) I'd consider them. Instead, I love Shimano's Custom-Fit line. Best shoes I've ever had: The Shimano SH-R220 (the Ultegra level shoe at the time I bought them). They oven-bake them, then vaccuum-mold them to your feet while they are still warm.
  2. They are meant to be easy on and off to speed transition time to and from the bike. Most have a rear loop for quick pull-on, are a bit more flexible around the ankle, and are set up to be worn without socks. They also have velcro designed to be tightened easily once on the bike, so you can pull them on, jump on the bike, and tighten them while on your way (instead of rachet straps. Pearl Izumi Tri Fly IV

It looks like I may get an interview for a position which has the potential to be less stressful, allow me to do what I enjoy, and not pay a whole lot less. I am grateful for the possibility.
  4. You would be correct, road shoes. All the tri shoes I've seenare meant for quick transitions. As such, the body of the shoe isn't quite as rigid, so you can pull them on quickly, but that sacrifices a bit of foot support (which can translate to comfort on a long ride) and power transfer. Much rather have two buckles, a ratchet strap, and a better outer shell.
  5. I continue to wonder if the amount of media attention we have given school shooters in the past decade has contributed to more of them. I pray that as few good things that may come out of these situations, the one thing that might is to shine a spotlight on mental illness in this country, that we might improve both our perceptions of it as well as diagnosis and treatment. Such a heavy stigma often results in hiding what might otherwise be able to be treated.

That it only cost eighteen bucks (including tax) for the shop to put the front derailleur I had on my backup Frankenbike. Only took a couple years for me to get that Ultegra 9spd triple configuration fully finished and actually truly compatible (rather than sorta-kinda) with the STI shifters. Bought the derailleur on eBay (the bike was a Craiglist purchase). (Picture before the new derailleur - 1993 Trek 1420 considerably modified, aka "Ol' Blue")

Mycroft...There's a heady name. Hope the pooch will grow to fill it.
  10. Bars are one place I don't get carbon. Torque specs often have to be more precise when tightening your stem, or you can crack them yourself if you aren't careful. As others have said, they are strong in their own way, but also react different to flex. I'm plenty comfortable with 7075 aluminum. Unfortunately, it appearsSalsa no longer makes the Short-n-Shallow road handlebars that have been my favorite for a few years now; it's getting difficult to find curved anatomic drops rather than flat ones.
  11. I hope it is a good fit, that you are happy in your work, and have good people around you. Those are the best job things I think anyone can hope for.
  12. I used Profile AirStrykes for a little while. Got the bottle that mounted on them and the computer mount for free, if I recall. Comfortable? Yes. Faster? Yes. Too twitchy for me (especially because I have more of an extension due to height and long arms)? Yes, even riding alone. I took mine off when one of the pins holding the fold-up arm pads vibrated out during a ride, and I couldn't find it on the road. I liked the thought of them, it just didn't work out between us.
  13. Indy, you recognize your title is an acronym for HER, right? I haven't eaten spam since summer camp as a kid.
  14. Just under five miles on the treadmill today. 22 miles yesterday on the bike. First time I've been on my ride in a very, very long time --and wore my 2009 LF jersey. Bosox, gotta tell you, my SRAM Red still works very well.
  15. Life has been kind of up and down. Check your PM, Bosox. Hi again, SuzieQ, Jerry, Ralph, Kzoo, BK, RR, and hello Pokey. Life has been kind of a roller coaster for me --but I'm happy to be among friends here.

I am grateful that as I have faced real struggles this year, it has shown me how much my wife and family love me, and has brought out friends that are stronger than I realized, and a support network at my church that I had no clue existed.
  17. Congratulations. Did you give him a delicious bass?
  18. Thanks Bosox. How are you healing up? Missed your presence, friend.
  19. Funny you should mention that... WoLW and I saw a guy and his wife walking together...she was wearing a skirt...in a grocery store parking lot...and he, well...gave her a good goosing. Let's just say both of us got a view we really didn't need.
