  1. I like a good snowstorm, but at the right time, and March is not the right time. I don't need to set my riding back any further.

  3. I think it happens every few years.
  4. yes - his appointment is scary enough as it is, to discuss treatment of tumors in his lung, seemingly metastasized thyroid cancer (that surgery was in 2017). These tend to be slow growing (they've been watching them since that 2017 surgery) so he's not terribly concerned about them - this is no better than his third biggest health concern, behind the COPD (now using oxygen) and multiple myeloma (still in remission).
  5. I missed a call from a number I didn't recognize, but it was from area code 302 - Delaware, where my parents live. Reverse lookup came up as the hospital nearest their house. Texted and called my mom's cell, no answer... called their house, straight to VM... called the number that called me, call didn't go through.... then that 302 number called me back - it was the radiologist's office calling to confirm "my" appointment at 10AM this morning. (first of all - who calls to confirm half an hour before the appointment?) then it became clear - that's my dad's appointment, and it looks like they accidentally called an emergency contact number. Scared the hell out of me. As soon as I figured it out, my mom texted that they'd just arrived at the office.
  6. Our Wii works just fine. But I tried to fix the NES and made it worse. welcome Jimwil! Wil he ever post? Wii'l see!
  7. especially the parts that are in New Jersey! that's Main Street in Lodi. (973 is a North Jersey area code, and to me the letter style on the overhead street name sign is a giveaway)
  8. Levittown, PA is like that - each individual neighborhood is named, and all the roads in that neighborhood start with that letter. This is "Goldenridge".
  9. if so, "Strands" is a small word search grid in which a certain number of words are hidden. The words are based on a given theme, but you don't know what the words are. Those words together will use up every letter in the grid, once and only once. https://www.nytimes.com/games/strands
  10. Walking on the lawn is like walking on a wet sponge. Active flood warnings for three rivers in the state (but that's not terribly uncommon)

  12. I love the pickled ones. A burger place we used to go to in Philadelphia served "Spanish fries" which had onions and jalapeno slices deep fried together with the potatoes. They were amazing.
  13. ^ I use something similar to that - it has three slots, one for conventional knives, one for Asian/santoku (I guess knife edges must use different angles), and one for final honing/polishing. (doesn't do scissors and didn't come with a Michael Jackson glove)
  14. I wasn't aware of one, other than the fact that the band's former bass player went by the nickname "Christmas". Found this on Wiki: "The end of the song "Frankie's Gun!" is featured in the British sitcom Outnumbered's 2009 Christmas Special, where all the family are seen singing along to it in the closing sequence."
  15. I'm glad the Felice Brothers are still around, still cranking out solid tunes. They released a new album at the end of last year. My wife and I saw them play to a crowd of about 100 at the tiny Hopewell Theater a couple years ago - think that was the third time I saw them play (independent of brother Simone Felice, who we've seen more than that). "Frankie's Gun" came out 16 years ago already!
  16. another Zwilling-Henckels. It's not perfect - it has a lightweight plastic handle, and I wish the blade was a little taller for more knuckle room. It has just a little flex which I seem to like. I use this for cutting most things - a gift from my brother at least 20 years ago. I am reminded that I do have a santoku knife which addresses the knuckle-room issue, but I prefer the longer blade.

  18. It's definitely a souvenir... I never carried mine around - we kept all of them together on a shelf in the kitchen and AFAIK they're still there. However, I did keep a photo of it on my phone.
  19. I don't have a Kindle so I don't know whether this is a likely consideration, but is there any sensitive personal information on the thing?
