  1. This is why ___ can’t have nice things.
  2. CA is the place for VW sightseeing.
  3. To start, I put on pajamas any time after dark. It varies. Then watch tv or read. mr and I will drink chamomile tea around 8:30. Then I get #2 a bedtime snack and lock up the fridge, prepare his BiPAP machine, and track his BiPAP time and the day’s exercise on his wall calendars. We usually talk about the day and his plans for the next day. Then I say good night and go wash my face and apply night cream, brush my teeth. If I’m not sleepy, I watch nature or gardening shows until I start dozing. I used to say prayers or a litany of loving kindness, but I’ve let that habit go. My fitness tracker data shows that my deepest sleep is within the first few hours of the night, and the rest of the night is light sleep, waking, and REM. What about you, @Kirby? Were you tuning into an interview about sleep hygiene out of need for ideas or a routine?
  4. My first car was a VW bug. I learned to drive in it. But I don’t think I could drive a standard now without a lot of trial and error. mr is renting a standard Golf in Scotland. He’s going to have fun.
  5. In AUGUST!!! What kind of nutter would be out hiking in the middle of August when it’s scorching hot? Late September is the best time to be outdoors.
  6. What part of the country? And what else would you do while in Spain? Spain in the next country on our international travel list. A few days along El Camino de Santiago is part of the plan.
  7. The commentary says this author uses nature imagery to write about a married couple. But I’m ok with a gentle reading. Sometimes a fence is just a fence. The Metal and the Flower By P. K. Page Intractable between them grows a garden of barbed wire and roses. Burning briars like flames devour their too innocent attire. Dare they meet, the blackened wire tears the intervening air. Trespassers have wandered through texture of flesh and petals. Dogs like arrows moved along pathways that their noses knew. While the two who laid it out find the metal and the flower fatal underfoot. Black and white at midnight glows this garden of barbed wire and roses. Doused with darkness roses burn coolly as a rainy moon: beneath a rainy moon or none silver the sheath on barb and thorn. Change the garden, scale and plan; wall it, make it annual. There the briary flower grew. There the brambled wire ran. While they sleep the garden grows, deepest wish annuls the will: perfect still the wire and rose
  8. Oh. I thought this parody was going to discuss leaving out the half-in-half and going black.
  9. What are you going to make with all those beans, @MickinMD? A pot of beans and ham? Bean salad. Green bean casserole. When I was eating keto, I put the marinara sauce on a pile of green beans instead of pasta.
  10. Americano with cream. I pour an ounce of cream into the cup, add about 6 ounces of hot water using the steaming wand on the espresso machine so the cream gets a little frothy, then I brew the espresso directly into the water and cream.
  11. mr had this van long before we met. He traded it in for a Chevy Nova after taking his very young children on a trip to CA at 55mph through the Mojave without air conditioning.

    Breakfast

Sourdough toast and yogurt with berries.
  13. Your life line is intact. And you’re getting a nine lives line.
  14. Fry bread is a staple on the reservation and in the surrounding four corners area. Same dough as a sopapilla, but fried in plate-sized rounds. Very sturdy.
  15. With wine! Lovely. Here’s the Dutch version. pannekoeken It’s a “pancake.” We shared one with apple and another with ham. And fries. Benelux fries are legend.
  16. In Montreal I ordered poutine with sautéed peppers added. Meh… The poutine we ate in Vancouver was standard fries, savory gravy, cheese curds. It’s comfort food.
  17. Yes, granddaughter and I ate it. I remember liking it.
  18. I like flatbread pizza. I prefer wood oven baked, but a yeasty flatbread, sauce, cheese, maybe pepperoni. It’s hard to mess up.
  19. I would eat them. Unless they were moldy.
  20. The Jacobite Train scenic railway is the one we’re watching daily. They had to cancel the trains because the door locks on these historic coaches aren’t up to modern safety standards. But were recently granted a waiver. Like last week. So, they’re gradually adding back trains and cars tentatively. The government could decide to shut it down again. We’re #11 on a waiting list.
  21. eSIMs. I’ll look into that. I don’t remember what we did for phone service last time we went to Europe. We will have to download detailed navigation, though. A few places in the Scottish moors and in rural Ireland may not have cell coverage for using the gps navigation. But it’s also something to ask the people who live there about, which I’m okay doing.
  22. We are set for flights and accommodation in Scotland and Ireland in the fall. We still need to look into insurance, a license to drive and car rental, cell phone use and a GPS, and purchasing admissions early where necessary.
  23. Is an overseas position still on your radar? I remember a few years ago you were looking.
