  1. 51.77 miles @ 16.2
  2. I guess I should learn how to embed a video before i try that again
  3. What, you don't think an upgraded bike would make you faster. You don't have to be worthy of a new bike or need one all you have to do is be able to afford it. Excuse me I'm actually talking to myself justifying my next bike. No rational justification for it other than it's my retirement gift to myself so I'm going for it.
  4. I don't take off the chain to clean it either. Granted I don't do a lot of riding in sloppy conditions but every couple of weeks I run the chain with White Lightning Clean Streak. I lube the chain with Rock n Roll Absolute Dry. Best lube I've ever used for dry conditions. BTW I ride on Zipp 303's very happy with them. They are my everyday wheel and have held up well so far. About 15months or 9000 miles on them.
  5. As of today 4480.7 miles. Distance is OK amount of climbing...not so much. bosoxyacht that's tragic. So sorry to hear that.
  6. I've never had a problem with the flask. Sometimes it's difficult to get the last bit out while riding. What I usually do is add a bit of water to make it more of a liquid than a syrup. Haven't dropped one yet.

    10/26/13

52.3 almost cold windy ones here.
  8. 22.3 miles including Tempo Intervals. 2 x 20 min w/10 min recovery. My buddy, who is faster than me, let me suck his wheel to keep me honest. A lot of pain, great workout.
  9. Does that road hazard thing cover body work? I was at the Costco in Sunset Park (Bklyn) on Monday and that parking lot was like driving in downtown Beirut. I was lucky to escape unscathed. Oh yea, the wild salmon filets are winners.
  10. That is correct. In the shadow of the Verrizano Bridge. I see you're in the Slope. I used to spend a lot of time down there.
  11. 36 miles @ 17.2. Kind of windy but not a rain cloud in sight.
  12. 53.8 miles @ 17.4 Great day for a ride!
  13. Can't spread your toes? These will help open those tootsies. Yoga Toes. I watch TV in them every night.

    Makes me sad

Every Thursday when the recycling gets put out there are a few people who go through the bags take what they can use close them back up and are on their way. If you didn't see them at work you would never know they were there. One time a second group showed up and I thought it was going to be a turf war but I guess they sorted it out. High Topper - that's a good one.
  15. Well, well, well the Giants just took the lead. Still plenty of time to screw it up.
  16. 46.1 miles @ 16.1. First outdoor saddle time since my procedure, 6 weeks. Felt great to be back out there
  17. The above statement definitely falls into the one man's opinion category. I never found running boring as long as I was training towards something. True it doesn't have the thrill of a screaming descent or the neat gear of cycling but that's part of it's allure...simplicity. All you need is running shoes and a road/trail. It also takes a lot less time to get in a solid run than a ride. As far as enjoying the scenery I couldn't disagree more. When I ran the St George Marathon in Utah the race started just before dawn. At the staging area the they had bonfires going for the runners to keep warm, very primal. Anyway I will never forget the sunrise over the mountains as I hit the five mile mark. Whenever I was on a trip that's how I would get a feel for the place, go for a run through it. You see a lot more up close and personal than sitting in a car or a bus. Don't get me wrong I love cycling but there is a lot to be said for running. Sorry I just don't think it's evil. Is this going to get me banned?
  18. I used to be a runner who did some cycling mostly when I was injured from running. I have run eight marathons including Boston, which you have to qualify for by running under a specific time based on your age. Marathons always left me trashed for at least two weeks. These days I'm a cyclist and don't run anymore. The biggest difference between running and cycling to me is that a hard ride will leave you feeling drained but not damaged. Unless you're blessed with great biomechanics running (not jogging but running) really does a number on your joints and connective tissue. What was I thinking?
  19. A few years ago I had achillies reconstructive surgery in January and just as was about recovered and rehabed I fractured my hip in a bike accident in September. Ended up with a hip replacement. That was around the time I joined the forum so that's how I was feeling at the time.

    Shoe covers

PI Barrier covers. Works for me.When it gets really cold (for me) I also use chemical toe warmers on the top of my feet. More warmth and another layer to block the wind.
  21. Not for nothing but the bibs are super comfortable. I'll speng money on bibs and shoes - contact points and all that. Jerseys, jackets and anything else I'll pass.
