  1. That may or may not be true. I'd suggest that most people work, but not all. And of course there is a difference between what you want and need. Some people want stuff they can't afford. But... they buy it anyway... and wonder why they are broke and unhappy. I always like the Hallmark movies... some party planner lives in a million dollar home. TV and the movies, etc.. in our society show people the stuff that we should want to have, and people buy into that crap. But I digress... Some people work and can't buy the stuff they need, let alone what they want. 57% of Americans have $1000 or less saved. Are they all sad? Probably not. Are they stressed and/or worried about money? I'd guess many are. In the 80s and 90s our company downsized and cut staff soooo many times WoBG and I (we both worked there, that's where we met) realized we needed an emergency fund that could if needed, keep our home and feed us for at least 6 moths or more. We became very frugal and lived well below our means. We took care of our needs. Are we happy? Yes. Did money make us happy? No. But then again... Money can reduce your problems and stress a lot. We figured that out back in the late 80s.
  2. WoBG told me to do that. Nope... I was going to get it backed down the driveway. Besides... the tongue weight was 90 pounds when empty. Lifting that and moving a 900 pound trailer around on the drive way didn't seem like a good idea.
  3. I backed this trailer down our 150 foot curved (left curve, then a right curve) driveway. Most times I did just fine. A few times... I'd stop pull forward and try again. More than 100 trips moving stuff, coming back from a store with lots of stuff, etc...
  4. There are free apps for cellphones that measure wi-fi signal strength too. I used the app on my android phone to measure the wi-fi signal strength for my network, before and after I installed the new ASUS router about 1 year ago. (the same ASUS router I nearly killed a few days with a firmware update that didn't go very well)
  5. So it probably is 50 feet or less from the dialysis machine. Is this a multi story building, and the router is above or below you?
  6. Who said the crusades was over?

    Testing

Let us know how that works out.
  8. I agree... All the places I have visited on vacation WoBG was there too. I know people who took separate vacations. I could never do that.
  9. Are you sure about that? Our company health care plan was excellent, even after I retired at 62. As soon as I was eligible for Medicare, our health care plan became an Medicare Supplement plan. Many at the utility where I worked, retired from the utility and were eligible for a pension. Then they found work as a contractor. In most cases working as a contractor for the same utility. I would hope they invested and/or saved the pay from the contractors gig. They would work for a while, the contacts ends... some signed on for more work others took time off and worked again later. Your skills are a rare commodity... I suspect you already know that.
  10. It depends... Some people don't plan for retirement, WoBG's girlfriend's sister and her husband never saved any money. They spent more than they made for their entire life and filed for bankruptcy at least twice. Now they are at retirement age. I suspect they can't retire and if they do, it won't be much fun at all. We planned and saved, and lived well below our means. this.... One day you will KNOW when it's time to retire. That happened for me when I was 62. Bored... nope. Not at all. I wonder how I had time to work.
  11. Dress warm... it's a bit colder there than Anchorage. And darker too. https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/fairbanks
  12. $16.6K and it won't track my bike rides? I like were you need an appointment to see the watch. There is a store in Chicago... nope not going there. (I'll keep my Garmin watch for a while)
  13. Not much snow predicted in Anchorage. But it looks like it will be cloudy a lot.
  14. Today I had a Lagunitas IPA during our late lunch (or early dinner?).
  15. That was our plan in the 60s and 70s. I lived in the suburbs of Chicago. I moved to rural IL in 1980. No antenna TV here. This is what is available here. Link to the search. The ONLY choice then was the cable company. VCRs were introduced in the 80s. They were expensive... but OMG we could tape a movie and SKIP the commercials. So that what we used then. Eventually the cable company here started using DVRs. WoBG loads up the DVR and we watch movies. That's how we skip commercials, if the channel has them. We also use 2 streaming services too. That's one reason I stopped watching sports on TV. We seldom watch 'regular' TV. We gave up watching the news too. Most of the time we watch movies.
  16. I buy a roll of 100 stamps when needed, which is about once every 2 to 3 years. I purchsed a roll in November of 22, so I'll be good for a while.
  17. I'm not sure... but If I recall the only time I had hummus was at my daughters home. I'll concede the fact 'I was today years old' is a figure of speech that. I've never heard that before. I just figured... you were 22 when you started using hummus for snacking.
  18. And that's just one of the reasons I don't buy from Amazon.
  19. Yeah I noticed the route on the web page. That was my first thought too. At least where I live... the wind is out of the west a LOT more often than the east. Then again,.. they are young, they can do it.

  21. And it appears you are real good at tying knots too. Good job mentoring. In today's world that's a rare trait.
  22. I programmed the security code into my new gun safe. I messed it up the first time. I was glad I... 1) had the door opened just in case... and 2) and an emergency key too to get in if I really screwed that up and had the door closed. Google told me why the lock was beeping and flashing yellow. It was in lockdown mode. Too many attempts that failed to open the lock. Once the lock calmed down (about 10 minutes later) and after I reread the instructions. Then I got it correct. Next... I get to bolt it down to the floor and into a wall. Drilling into concrete will be fun.
  23. Once WoBG and I were shopping in downtown Chicago. I was parked in a large parking garage. We walk down the ramp to the car, it was kind of dark in there. I had a 93 dark green Dodge Intrepid at the time. I open the trunk with the key. (Most cars used keys back then.) I stop... WTF??? I close the trunk. WoBG asks 'Why didn't you put the stuff in the trunk?' I tell her 'I don't have any golf clubs, and I don't have golf clubs in my trunk.' I look... a few more cars down the parking ramp was a green Intrepid. That's when I notice the other one was black. Yeah... my key opened the car.
  24. WoBG got into a car one day that was parked 2 spaces in front of where I was sitting, parallel parked in front of the post office. She was in there a while. I started to get nervous, and was just about ready to see what was going on. Then WoBG gets out of the car. Apparently she had a conversation with the woman in the drivers seat about how similar cars are today.
