This... And for the record I never used a pocket protector. Many if not most in my classes in college did.
  2. Power was back on at 6:40 PM. So the power was off for 6 hours and 45 minutes. The generator was used for 5 hours and 45 minutes. Our house has a well, it nice to be able to flush. And it nice to have the furance on too. Ameren still didn't provide a reason for the outage. We did a better job at explaining power outages to customers. I'm going to provide 'coaching' suggestions when I get their survey in a few days about the power outage. The cable (our internet) was out for maybe 3 or 4 hours too. The cable was on the same pole.
  3. Yeah I use an external harddrive, a SD card and Norton backs my data encrypted to their cloud. I lost data once years ago. I decided that can't happen again. An this reminds me... I need to open up the case of WoBG's desktop computer and clean it out.
  4. I just got a text from the power company. The power should be back on at 7:30 PM. They still haven't provided a cause for the outage.
  5. The power went out at 11:55 AM. I took a short drive and found pole with the top broken off. The road was closed a electric utility trouble crew was there and the fire department was there too. I suspect an insulator failed and power was going to ground thru the crossarm and the pole burned where the bolts thru the pole that hold the crossarm brace. It looked kind of like this, without the fire. I deployed my generator. at 12:55 PM, I only filled it with 2 gallons of gas (good for 4 hours) I will need to add gas soon.
  6. My old phone Galaxy S7 is Android. It still works and runs the few apps I will use. One of these days I'll give in and get a new Galaxy. They are on version S24 now. I'll probably just procrastinate until it dies or apps stop working.
  7. My Park chain tool I use on my Shimano chains would have paid for itself after one chain replacement. I have saved a lot of money over the last 20 years.
  8. I like the Maryland Crab Cakes. They have a sister restaurant we like too. https://www.pesciolinoosteria.com/ It's worth a the drive. We met the owner at the Beach House and they are planning a separate gelato bar in the adjacent building, that they already own. There are 3 state parks about 15 minutes from our home. One of them gets 2 million visitors in a year. We have WAY more local restaurants here in our town of 18,000 local residents compared to most, because of the many visitors. Starved Rock State Park has some good food there too. You just need to know when NOT to go to some of these places.
  9. I replaced the extension springs on the garage doors at my old home. (Google found me this picture) The difficult part was lifting the door. If I recall the door was 175 pounds. I'd lock it open and replace the springs. When the door is open there is minimal tension the springs. At my new home we have torsion springs. One broke after only 5 years. I called the guy for that one. I probably could change a torsion spring, but I don't want too deal with all of the variables... the diameter of the spring wire. the length of the spring, how many turns you need to turn the spring to get to the correct tension for the weight of the door, how to wrap each wire drum the same so the door lifts the same on each side, etc... Nope I called the guy. He was done in about 1 hours. He told he uses the app in his phone to calculate what needs to be done for the weight of my door. He used a larger diameter spring wire and the torsion springs are longer now too. He told it should last 10 years.
  10. We have more than a few local independent restaurants. That's were we go out on our dates. The only chain restaurants we visit are Cracker Barrel maybe once or twice a year. We drop the car off for maintenance and we walk about 300 yards to have lunch. Maybe 2 or 3 times a year we stop at Olive Garden. These are just a few of the places we like. https://www.montesriversideinn.com/ https://hanksrestaurantil.com/ https://www.inigapizzeria.com/ https://tangledrootsbrewingco.com/locations/the-lone-buffalo/ https://www.burgerandsushihouse.com/home-ottawa/ https://www.beachhousegrille.com/ And if we drive a few miles more. https://www.uptowngrill.com/ https://www.bullmoosebar.com/ https://gaetanosvaultil.com/ https://destihl.com/restaurant https://www.verucchis.com/
  11. Yeah when I worked that was my routine too. My bed time when I worked was 11:00 PM (sometimes closer to midnight). And that's assuming I didn't get calls from a customer overnight to wake me up. I'm glad I'm retired....
  12. Next time you have that horrible task, just send me the information, I'll enter the data for you .
  13. I know why I'm up, I had to pee. I also got the opportunity to take my 16 1,/2 year old dog (115 in dog years) outside too. He had to pee too.
  14. No. A guy who posted an Excel macro to calculate PI, is not funky.
  15. I missed this post... The math for the bonus was almost identical to how our bonus was calculated. We grouped people into 3 buckets for performance reviews; exceeds expectations,, meets expectations, and does not meet expectations. I'm sorry to say (at least this is how it worked at my company) a personal multiplier of 50% was only possible if you were in the does not meet expectations group. If you made it into that group 2 years in a row, you were terminated. I have two suggestions for you. Find a way to get into the meets expectations group and/or start looking for a new job now. Good luck with this...
  16. WoBG and I have hiked at many places. The first thing I noticed was the water on the 'steps'. Yeah, that makes it slippery. I'd never try that. We did do this trail. https://www.earthtrekkers.com/notch-trail-badlands-national-park/ In the Badlands in SD we were on a trail that used wooden logs as steps. We hiked that trail. Going down, I just faced the rock and went the same way I ascended the steps. Like going down a ladder. Google found the trail for me. Going up, the closer we got to the top, we climbed it like a ladder. Going down... it looks a lot steeper.
  17. Yeah... just start out slow and walk fast.
  18. I agree about the part about being a victim of American medicine. I had pancreatitis. I went to the emergency room. I was diagnosed with gastritis and was released. I went to my doc the next day. He looks at all of the same test results and he tells me I have pancreatitis I got admitted to another hospital and I got released in about a week. I still had pain. I go back to my doc for a follow up. Once again he looks at all of the test results they did and he tells me I STILL have pancreatitis. I go to a 3rd hospital and I'm cured. I have insurance. I suspect the hospitals just want you to leave as soon as possible. Never mind if you are incorrectly diagnosed. They got me sent home. Prayers for you son.

So.. are you unlucky... or do they just omit you from the lotteries because you threw a fit? I hope your luck changes. Will there be other lotteries (hopefully more than one) for an apartment before you are homeless? I just cant imagine housing insecurity. Yeah that sucks.

Didn't you say you have to move out by the end of the month?
  21. I was betting on the putty knife. Apparently that is not in RG's stash of tools. Kind of like not owning a bucket. So moving may be the only option.
  22. I was curious (and bored watching a movie with WoBG) so I used the Gregory-Leibniz series and wrote an Excel macro to calculate π. The macro uses 500,000 iterations and the answer is indeed close. I've exceeded my useless drivel quota for the day.
  23. Yes but that will take 500,000 iterations to be accurate to 5 decimal places. https://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-Pi Yeah... I just use the π key on my calculator. and the Excel PI().
  24. If @Razors Edge's idea doesn't work, possibly this is another idea that may work.
