I did take a picture of the guy too. He said bike touring was on his bucket list and he finally got the time to do it. He's seventy years old.

  5. The story of my insomnia
    The story of my insomnia

I had a very busy weekend. Went to bed exhausted at 9:30 pm Sunday, slept through until 5 am. Very good for me. Went to be at 9:30 Monday night, too, but without all the physical exertion and stress that the weekend had, I couldn’t clear 3 am. Now my wife is up and wants coffee, which means the cats will want to be fed and the dog wants to go out and the day has begun. But it’s only 4:34 am!

  6. Letter frequency for use in Wordle and Quordle
    Wordle 3/12
18 minutes ago, Road Runner said:

According to some guy on Reddit, there are 2315 5-letter words likely to be used by Wordle.  Among these words, the letters and their frequency of use are shown below.

Everything in italics is from the Reddit guy.

    Letter Count of letter:

    A - 978

    B - 281

    C - 477

    D - 393

    E - 1232

    F - 229

    G - 311

    H - 389

    I - 671

    J - 27

    K - 210

    L - 718

    M - 316

    N - 575

    O - 754

    P - 367

    Q - 29

    R - 899

    S - 668

    T - 729

    U - 467

    V - 153

    W - 195

    X - 37

    Y - 425

    Z - 40

This already gives us enough info to know what words are the most potent ones. We can go to a random word maker site and input the 5 most popular letters. This will give us words most likely to guess letters correctly - not taking the position into account.

The 5 most popular letters are E, A, R, O, T. We input them on the site and it creates 3 words out of them: OATER, ORATE, and ROATE. Hence using any of these 3 words is better than using ANY other initial guess if your goal is to get the best possible outcome for your second guess only. So this doesn’t take any tactics into account. These 3 words are not among the 2315 Wordle words so you will never get a “solved in 1” using them.

I am convinced.  I will give ROATE a shot.  My ATONE is getting old.  :)

That is all fine and well, but WTF is a roate?  Type of pasta? :D

Hmm, it sounds like it is an acronym (especially since it was submitted by acrimonious! :D ) .  Are those legal?  SNAFU? brb!

    1. roate

ROATE means the cumulative net earnings after taxes available to common shareholders, adjusted for tax-affected amortization of intangibles, for the calendar quarters in each calendar year.

So far, it is GREAT.  Really can't say much more than it was really neat. And a great soundtrack.

    Check it out.

    Owl bookmark this.

  8. RIP Robbie Robertson
    RIP Robbie Robertson

I knew who he was when he released his first solo album in my record store days. I liked that album a lot and it encouraged me to work backwards on his music with the Band and Bob Dylan. His album “Contact From the Underworld of Redboy” had a real impact on me. It is uneven, but when it hits, it’s transcendental!
He was also featured in “Rumble”. A documentary on Native American performers in popular music. Watch it if you haven’t seen it.

  9. 885 countdown 2023
So the countown has begun for the top 885 songs by wimmin - I am enjoying a lot of new to me music

The Etta James one for example.  I thought my submittal was good, but crowdsourcing from the listeners turns up some great stuffs. :)
