  1. The storm came though here last night about 8:20. The local TV, tornado sirens and our phones warned us to take immediate shelter. When I opened the front door to look, I heard the freight train noise, saw stuff blowing down the road, then told Mrs to head downstairs with the dogs. First time in over 20 plus years that I felt taking shelter was necessary. We survived mostly unscathed but our new shingles on the roof look to be a bit ruffled. Info has been trickling in bit by bit, but surrounding areas had scattered debris, downed trees, with some sheds, carports and pole barns blown away, most were probably caused by the 60+ mph sustained winds.
  2. Its late March. Even the Robins are "wth?" It is pretty though. Guess I better go unbury the snow thrower again.
  3. I'm a 1962 model, so boomer by date. But both my parents had to work and then got divorced, so I was also a latchkey.
  4. I only got to ride my snowmobile once this season. And I had to wait until March to do it. The good news is at this rate my 16 year old snowmobile will probably out last me. This one trip was enough to keep the itch alive though. Enough for me to even buy a $200 pair of snowmo boots. (My old ones cracked and had a blowout.
  5. Yeah, several people at work are out sick, and masks are starting to make a comeback.
  6. We stopped for a quick lunch and I had the day's special, two piece chicken. Thought it would come with fries, but.... It was good. But it made for slow riding until it settled. Ran across some cyclists out in the woods. The last picture is a bra tree, just because.
  7. Last weekend my son and I took a last minute snowmobile trip to Rhinelander Wisconsin. They still have tons of snow and they got almost a foot of it while we were there. Usually the season and trails in this area are closed by now. My son and I were the first ones to make tracks on most trails and we had the whole resort to ourselves.
  8. This song has my favorite sad line of all time. "I said I'm so happy I could just die. She said drop dead," then left with another guy.
  9. A local van builder over-by-here has three Sprinters available. https://www.nowherevans.com/in-stock-vans
  10. These are a genuine value and you can find them everywhere. The place I work (along with many other things) is also contracted by the county to provide transportation for people with special needs. They have dozens of buses like these, E350s, E450s and E550s with dozens of handicap accessible minivans too. The best I can tell (after working there for a few years) when they get new vehicles in, they park the old, high mileage ones out back. Maybe they get a bunch together, then action them off. I don't know if they are company owned or owned by the county. Probably both. Many have been sitting there since I started, and have had their catalytic converters stolen by scrapers. All our buses have V10s with wheel chair lifts and fleet maintained. Maybe check with your local municipalities.
  11. LOL, when we were up north last weekend, the girls (our DIL with input from my wife) had the dinner menu's planned beforehand. Friday fish fry at the on site restaurant, Saturday prime rib at a local steakhouse, Sunday dinner at a local brewpub, and Costco meatloaf at the cabin on Monday when all the restaurants were closed.
  12. Jealous. We have ice on everything. Our lights have been flashing since yesterday and some roads are closed with trees down. My companies' wide texts say everyone is staying home again today. I'll wait a bit before I go out and start scraping the driveway.
  13. Because we made non refundable reservations over a month ago, we went up north last weekend after an extremely bad thaw/rain. The only thing left on the walks, side roads, snowmobile trails and lakes was solid ice. Huge ice chunks were even falling from the lodge roof. Now, they're calling for fourteen inches of snow by Thursday. I guess we went up one weekend too soon.
  14. Italian Beef with Marinara Sauce and Mozzarella Cheese. Giardinieras on the side.
  15. "He's got a real good job and his shirt and tie is nice, But I remember a time when she never would have looked at him twice."
  16. Yea our county started spraying all of our roads with some kind of a liquid snow melter before every weather event. I guess it delays the snow sticking, but once it does stick, it gets more wicked slippery then if they left roads untreated. And when the stuff gets on the cars, you can almost hear them starting to rust.
  17. Interestingly, I have a friend who retired, got married, and bought an unfinished custom home on Lake Superior too. But his is a huge Queen Anne replica towards Marquette. Built on a hill so everyone can see it when they drive past. It's brightly colored with all the fancy trim work, wrap around porch, balconies and a tall pointy turret. I guess its nice, but its out of place. They have lived there for almost ten years and are finally starting to get accepted into the community. Previously they've been known by the locals as the people that own that big "Look at me! I'm all fancy!" mansion on the lake.
  18. I'm not a gambler, but while snowmobiling I've taken advantage of their motels, gas station/stores, restaurants, etc that were built nearby mostly catering to the casino patrons. Often in towns that don't have much else going on to draw people to the area.
  19. Yep, had plans to go snowmobiling UP there this week. Took the time off from work. But mother nature had other plans. Even the resort we were going to stay called us and told us we should cancel.
  20. I'm counting on it warming up in SE Wisco next weekend to do the stuff I had planned to do this weekend. I only have a few weekends before our first snowmobile trip and I haven't even looked at them since last March. I know the trailer bearings will need to be greased, last years snowmobile gas needs to be drained and changed, and all the dozens of registration and trail permits need to be heated with a heat gun peeled off and current ones installed. Probably need to get the oil changed and tires rotated on the tow rig too. Its what I get for waiting till the last minute, but in my defense, we seldom get blizzard conditions and sub zero temps at Christmas.
  21. Our son in Louisiana said they've been having temps in the teens at night. Their newer house is over insulated to keep the air conditioned air in, but most of the plumbing is not protected from cold in the attic, outside, etc. Told them to leave the water trickle, leave the attic doors open, or maybe wrap important pipes with the kid's pool noodles.
  22. Here the sun is out and makes me want to go out and clear the drifts off the driveway. But with eleven below temps not counting the wind, I think I'll stay inside for a while. Even the dogs (Buddy the puppy, LOVES!! the snow) went out to play in the snow and quickly came running back in. Also, you know its cold out when... Anyone else ever get icy stalacmites on their chimneys? Got a new chimney flue when we replaced the shingles.
  23. Looking on the bright side if the pipes are frozen, so are the crawl space spiders.
