The first time I ever witnessed an eclipse I was in boarding school. I had never heard of the leaf shadows. I was dumbstruck. I don't think I ever looked up, just watched the sidewalk.

Solid assessment and plan.
The state of photo sensors is pretty good across the board, none of the top brands are going to have dramatic differences. Personal ergonomics, which body feels best in your hand, and which brand has the lens selection that most intrigues you, would be my two major decisions.
