  1. Sacrilege Bloody Yanks purloining our heritage.........it's not right and I won't take it anymore.
  2. Did my laundry.....hung it outside and got everything dry and put away. Had a lovely lunch of an Arbroath Smokie, Ayreshire potatoes and petite pois....and a glass of white wine. @Dottie......why does your pellet stove get so dirty? Is this the wood you are using or is it not burning hot enough so that the smoke is condensing into tar? I've found that too much damping of the chimney so that it became cold was responsible for my wood-burner doing this at one time. I'm determined to go on offering solutions although you may not have a problem.
  3. Shimano blocks I've found are particularly hard on rims and will wear them down eventually. Changing to Koolstop is another world... being effective and kind to the rims as well. Removing the old rubber from the braking surface of rims is easier using the green pot scrubbers with whatever.....I used to use toothpaste at one time.
  4. It's right that we may learn by our mistakes and those of others..........but no-one....no-one at all, should deserve such a fate.
  5. Here you go SW......something to make you feel better. Doing my bit Earlier this week I hosted a cardiac event you know….wanting to do my bit like…. l had lots of help mind so I can’t take the credit I mean I just lay there as lots of lovely helpers turned up and not one of them over fifteen as far as I can tell….. buzzing around in their soft-soled shoes doing all sorts of things….you know… sticking things on and ripping them off sticking things in…and leaving them in… pumping things up then letting them go down writing things down for others to read propping me up…then lowering me down opening up the curtains…. then closing them again everyone had a great time really while I just lay there watching it all as this seemed to be what was expected….. anyway…no-one got a wink of sleep went at it all night long they did these young people….never stopped for breath…. all in all the whole thing went well hand on heart I think I can say …..it was a huge success.
  6. Listen to Dottie..........God....I never thought I'd say that.
  7. Didn't this guy win the King of the Mountains a few years ago?
  8. I've had an Arbroath Smokie for lunch and am now contemplating something Chinese.....may start with hot and sour soup then something with prawns. Sending out for this... and it will be dropped all down my front while watching some French film from the Amazon Prime collection. Such are my evenings these days.
  9. I bought this yesterday and have to say I love it. I think the styling is pretty macho and this dovetails with my image as an alpha male with an education. I drive it with the window down so that the slipstream can tousle my hair......it's a great look....dear me yes.
  10. I'm tidying up my affairs at the moment having had my third heart attack earlier this week. I can't expect to continue to be lucky so it makes sense to make sure there are no loose ends for my daughter to worry about. I've always wanted the security of knowing I can leave this life on my terms, and do so without causing anyone distress but it's a difficult one. The decision to do so is not really a big deal for me as I see death as merely part of life and as a natural event.
  11. Oh.........my..........God. Clearly you are beyond all redemption....and here's me thinking we were as one on these matters. What is wrong with you? What has happened to that person I knew....the one that loved vintage steel bikes and all the time proven traditional practices. This is so sad. If you had lived somewhere other than that God forsaken place with all its wacky baccy and bouncy chested women with big hair I just know that you would have been fine. What next I ask myself.
  12. Stop this at once. You are merely confirming all of my batshit thoughts of what a Texan should be and this is not at all healthy. Move on to discussing your flower arranging and quilt-making hobbies in order to restore my equilibrium please.....thank you.
  13. I have constant pain due to a broken back and did try hemp oil but it did nothing for me. After reading this thread I've just ordered some CD edibles and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this may work. SW......stop buggering around and try some of these suggestions. It makes no sense to go on suffering and complaining when there are solutions around that may work. To continue suffering and living a life of low quality does not make you a better person, and you have to take on the responsibility for improving what appears to be an impossible situation for yourself and those closest to you.
  14. Now I do know that everyone....and especially 3alarmer, are waiting for me to make the definitive call regarding chain maintenance in this thread but I refuse to do so. I mean you are all wrong..... but I'm determined not to comment any further than that.
  15. Ebikes are great for extending your cycling life. Having one allowed me to spend time with my touring club for a few years longer....and that was important to me after having been with them for over forty years. I had a Moulton TSR which had 27 gears converted to E-assist and it was absolutely great until even using this became difficult. Again, for those who have a wife who tends to be slower than yourself when cycling, this is a huge benefit and considerably cheaper than swapping your wife for a newer, faster model.....dear me yes.
  16. I have a great dentist and I trust him absolutely. No problem with dentists and my best extraction was done while in the Army, sitting in a kitchen chair in a tent in Northern Greece.....never felt a thing. Thinking of getting one of those jet water pick things instead of using the miniature things which look like tiny toilet brushes.
  17. If you have any rotator cuff problems left over then I could do with one........I seem to have everything else....thank you.
  18. It's true that most of my neighbours are Hobbits.... and that they keep asking me to go on some sort of quest.......I tell them I'm old but they keep saying ...so was Gandalf.
  19. It's always scary.......but it does confirm what is really important in life. If something happened to my daughter I'm not sure what I would do.
  20. Then again you could always stay at my place.....I mean it would mean an air mattress on the floor as mine is describes as a bedsit. That said, it's comfy and has a separate kitchen and bathroom and is perfect for my needs.....in a nice little county town too. The house itself is a Georgian Estate house and I love it. I live in the old servants' quarters which are below street level at the front of the building.
  21. Next time you should stay with my daughter as she runs an Airbnb and it's very cheap. You'd like her as she's a chip of the old block.......which is a shame really.
  22. Ah.....it's a lovely city, small and beautifully situated and is expanding rapidly with more young people moving there attracted to the place. It's also the meeting place of those who live in the Highlands and they visit to stock up on provisions and shop. My daughter lives near-bye in a small fishing village and lectures at Inverness College. It would take me around three hours to drive up there but it's not something I'd care to do in winter as it's easy to get snowbound.
  23. Yeah.....I know that this is scary, but I've found that the anticipation of pain is usually worse than the pain itself. I take it that you don't use blood thinners as I'm aware that this doesn't help the passing blood thing. I'd like to think that the op goes some way to lessen your problem and give you some relief....psychological and physical that is. You could do with a break.
  24. Yes.....certainly in Scotland we do not have to travel long distances to find the wild places. I've towed a camper (caravan) and have owned a camping car but I prefer to cycle/camp myself though can't manage this now. I like when camping to keep it simple and go lightly loaded, but not to the extent of some friends of mine who are members of the Rough Stuff Fellowship who take their bikes up mountains, over gorges and sleep in caves on occasion. Many families here have two or three cars as in the US and this is creating huge problems here as the roads are becoming too crowded for safe cycling.
  25. I don't believe in allowing cycling to become an ego thing.......too much of the pleasure of cycling is lost by doing this. I've never been interested in speed, and to me it's all about enjoying the effort, enjoying the countryside and being on the bike. I've always loved loaded touring with a light-weight tent and being free to roam the countryside for a couple of months. No strict route, but just a destination to reach by using the smallest and quietest roads which avoided all the large towns. I never had a day on tour in France when I didn't cycle, and have never felt more liberated than when I knew I had a thousand miles to go and only myself to rely upon to get there. It's something I still miss every summer.
