  1. We were not sure what our chances were going to be given that a new Florida policy gives Florida residents a one month head start on booking campsites in the state parks, but we managed to book an entire month in three different parks. Yay!

Now I better bring in some work to pay for all this travel given what is happening with the price of gas.

  2. Another one in the been there done that camp here.

You have no idea yet how strong you are but the realization will come to you that you got this.

Not before some considerable pain and healing, but this too shall pass.

We are here for you man.

  3. My dad had a fraternal twin. They both died the same year at age 87.

My mom's youngest sisters were identical twins. One of them was the first of the seven siblings to die, the other is the only survivor of the family apart from my mom.

My brother in law from my first marriage had an identical twin. They were so identical in every way when they were younger, even their immediate families had trouble telling them apart. Even their voices were indistinguishable.

  4. Looking around on a boondocking facebook group and someone was talking about W3W locations. i had no idea what that meant, so a bit of exploring the interwebs and I discover that every square 3 meters of the earth's surface has been assigned three unique words.

You can find your W3W (what 3 words) location using the app and save or share the location.

you can also find the code by entering an address or scrolling on the map and tapping on a spot and then navigate to it.

Who knew? okay, maybe everybody except me, but this is pretty cool.

I can see wheel issues for hub drive systems but are you seeing wheel issues with mid drive as well?

Oh yeah, spokes and hub issues. there are OEMs using IGH hubs that were never designed for the input torque of a mid drive motor. I had one come to me last year with a Sturmey Archer 5 speed fat bike hub that had the sharp edges of the drive pawls worn down to the point they would not stay engaged. When I contacted Sturmey Archer about possible warranty, they said no way as they have never approved any of their hubs for E bikes.

I ended up doing a full overhaul on the hub with a bunch of new parts all at the customer's cost.

  6. The number of these things has just exploded in the last couple of years in the places where we ride.

I am also called on more and more to do wheel repairs on them. I had to expand my tooling to deal with 13 and 12 gauge spokes which I almost never saw before.

I did a couple of electric front hub retrofits for my wife. The most recent one has been serving her well for 12 or 13 years.

I may build one for myself at some point but I am not there yet.

  7. In the ten minutes or so leading up to totality, the clouds had some small gaps that gave us a few teaser glimpses. Kind of like watching a fan dancer and seeing just enough to keep you riveted.

The yard lights came on about 5 minutes before totality.
