  1. I'm guessing since the earth is only 6000 years old and it takes a million or so years for dinosaurs to turn to oil, that book must be in the Future Testament.

    Schools

12 years of Catholic school. My parents sacrificed a lot for that, I got jobs to help pay for High School. Never went to college. Sent all my kids to Catholic schools too. Kept us pretty cash strapped for a long time, but it was well worth it. I don't see it as being viable for the next generation, it's just getting too expensive, it's going the way of private academies.
  3. dude. I was taught mostly by nuns. The HS gym teacher did knock me out cold once, but that was during a game. I don't think he meant to. Maybe. I hope.
  4. I do think it's hysterical how many people are all cranky thinking he was serious about it.

    Party

Is it still an "invite" if it isn't extended until well after the RSVP date? I see what you did there.
  6. Not me, those are easier to hit.

    Old books

Before throwing them out, take a good look. Some may have value. Especially if they are really old. Worth more if they are also signed by the author. And a ton more if they are old and signed by the author and are the Bible. That one cost me a LOT

    Party

I thought this thread was going to contain an invitation.
  9. It's not red at 4AM. I have a gold card and I'm not afraid to use it
  10. Please, never that left hand thing I've been trying for years to convince my wife that the only drivers who remember what that raised left hand thing means are so old they can't see you anyway. After a while of refusing to admit I might have learned something in 30 years of cycling in traffic, she changed. She started putting her left hand up, pointing her index finger to the right. I finally laid into her about it, she got PO'd at me, but I'm trying to keep her alive. Simple, large gestures for simple drivers of any size. Point left, point right, anyone not staring at their phone can figure that out. They won't know stop or slow, so I don't confuse them with it. At an intersection, I'll sometimes point straight ahead if I see they are looking for some indication from me. There are other signals for bikes following me, but I assume they should know more than drivers about what I'm saying.

    I made pie

I'm going to a Bourbon tasting party this weekend. Everybody brings their favorite to share. I'm also bringing my chocolate chip bourbon pecan pie. If I can find my recipe.
  12. I don't know about jsahrr or wilbur but I do know you tagged this thread wrong.
  13. Not sure I can help here. I only use Outlook for email, I didn't know it also did College Football
  14. My daughter has a CVT in her Subaru. Seemed to handle downhills OK. Not sure if like it or not, I'm constantly changing my opinion of it.
  15. still her fault. just because her dad ate too much fatty meat doesn't make it the driver's fault.
  16. where? Do you have a different account of the accident? I do have enough past experience with cycling to know that if I'm riding on the wrong side with no helmet and run a light, the injury is on me, not the car
  17. He really ought to come in out of the cold, if that thing turns any more red it's gonna fall off
  18. Is it biased reasoning? She certainly does have a bias towards the cyclist being totally at fault. But given that she presented the case quite factually, and without embellishment or opinion, and the facts lead to the conclusion of the cyclist being totally at fault, it appears she has a reasoned bias.
  19. I think we found the problem! If they would stay home he would only have to run away once!
  20. I prefer the vegan version.
  21. I grew up with 5 boys in the house. One Christmas, mom went to Sears and bought 5 Corduroy leisure suits, appropriate sizes, different colors. With almost matching wide color multicolored polyester shirts. I think that was because she couldn't find coal to put in our stockings. Wait - it gets worse. Being #3 in line, I had to endure them through 2 hand me down cycles. Fortunately for my younger brothers, I was always really hard on clothes. I never understood what was so leisurely about those suits. If they come back, I will hunt down Randomguy
  22. The current economy is a bit misleading. Indicators are up, but not as much as predicted. Meaning the economy is not actually performing as well as it should. Which tends to point to a reversal soon. Maybe end of 19, early 20. It (hopefully) won't be as deep as the last one, some of those drivers aren't here now. Yes, there will be attempts to prop it up for the election. Like the stupid budget that was just negotiated - money for everybody! And that's the thing to keep in mind if you plan to retire in the next 10 years. With debt and deficits at these levels, the government has little ability to help get out of a recession, so it could be protracted. I've stopped buying, now sitting on cash. Given opportunities, I'll move more into cash. Then I will put the cash into something safe. Not sure metals are even a thing anymore.
  23. Shoot, I just remembered I was supposed to plant cukes and peas this week! I guess that's tonight. And a hard prune on the tomatoes, pick everything I can. Then finish packing the truck. Tomorrow morning, hitch up the boat, load the wife, nieces and dog in the truck and hope there's not a ton of traffic on the NY Thruway. If we get there in time we'll meet Mom and bro at Rosie's for dinner. Then weekend - what weekend - 2 weeks of not counting what day it is!
