My FIL puts every available dollar into stock in his Schwab account. He told WOChrisL yesterday that he only has $21 until Friday!?!? WOChrisL was saying he’s nuts but he’s doing this for her as she’s the beneficiary on his portfolio & in the will she gets it all.

Well it’s not exactly the GF’s mom’s place… She’s unemployed & disabled so technically it’s his GF’s place & mom helps pay the rent. The mom wants to live with her BF so when this lease ends they are looking to get their own place with another friend. Yeah my son is fairly good with money. He does take after his mom in that regard which is a good thing.

This made me think back to my own kids. My son wants my guns, both already have one of my dog tags, nobody wants my bikes! 😂

My mom had already earmarked personal belongings to certain kids well before her passing. For example one kid wanted her wedding photo so she promised it to her. Another sister got her wedding band & such. As she got nearer to the end she started giving her kids these items. Most were not in the will but we all pretty much knew who wanted what and honored the promises. All of her other personal belongings not promised to someone was given away but we had a process. It was all laid out, we put a stick with our birth number printed on it. If more than one person wanted something then we drew straws. That worked out really well.

Times must have changed! I’m going to spend a week working an event with a bunch of former Marines. The digs & jabs are epic! Except the top dog is an Army Dog! 😂 Some things never change!

I had to take a moment on the JB Myer-Henderson… I forgot they commingled those two bases. In my day, Army dogs trespassing on their base & vice versa would lead to a fight! There was a gate within the perimeter that allowed foot access to either base and I did check out Henderson Hall once but didn’t stick around long.

My son has made some questionable life choices but one thing he hasn’t done is run up credit debt. He actually doesn’t even have a credit card. He also paid off his car & plans to keep it until it dies. He doesn’t earn much (well $20 an hour thanks to CA’s new minimum wage) but doesn’t carry debt either.

That’s so freaking awesome! Great news on the walking too. WOChrisL and I haven’t resumed riding post Covid but we started our walks. We did 3 miles yesterday and it felt good!

The hard part, as you know, is the plateaus that often come with weight loss. It’s hard not to get discouraged but staying the course is the best option. I heard a comment that really resonated with me and it was focus on getting healthy, not losing weight. If you focus on getting healthy, the weight will come off. I’m focusing on my food plan and getting my blood glucose in check. But by doing so my weight also came down.

Stay the course…. Oh and that’s awesome!

I think it may have something to do with the employee discounts they get. They are substantial too but maybe there are credit requirements. But I’m spitballing here, I really don’t know why it didn’t go through… My daughter drives a newer LX 460 that she pays a fraction of what a non family member pays.

Two community pools. And they get used year round, especially the jacuzzi’s. Pools are a thing in SoCal as the weather allows for their use all but a few weeks of the year. Well for us, you northerners probably would still swim in temps we wouldn’t!

Yeah I’m not sure, just relaying what I was told. She didn’t get the car either way…. My daughter’s FIL works for Lexus and so he’s able to get leases at a greatly discounted rate. It could have something to do with that… As an aside my SIL drives an extra car they have on their employee program and they told him they’d likely need the car back. Likely for his mom to drive.

My daughter’s MIL just got denied a lease as her credit is for shit. I’m hearing $20+ K in consumer debt. She leases every few years so it seems it got much worse in the past few years.

Oh yeah lifeguards… Our community pool doesn’t have them…When we’d go to the pools in VA my son was always on time out by the lifeguards for breaking some rule. No running, no splashing, get out every 30 minutes. Shoot we had a free for all at our pool! 😂

Wait, pools are not common in the great white north!?!?!? I’d guess close to half of the single family homes in SoCal have a pool and they are pretty much standard in communities like mine. We actually have two pools. I always found it odd the pools in VA closed. As we could swim 11 of 12 months of the year (all but a few weeks really) our pools never close.

Yeah we likely will stay put for the foreseeable future. 1,500 sq ft townhouse with an attached garage. We have stairs which may be problematic at some point. It was too small when the kids were here but just right now. Our daughter, SIL and grandson bought a place about a mile away which makes our location ideal. We also can pay the place off in a few years but we’re letting our mortgage, with a 2.25% interest rate roll and are putting extra money into retirement instead.

Nuts, & cashews especially are pretty calorie dense, 157 calories close to 9 grams of carbs for one ounce. Now one ounce is about 15 cashews and if you are like most people don’t limit yourself to one once of nuts. Nuts are part of our food plan but we really limit them. I tend to eat more almonds than cashews too. I have noticed that I snack less on weekends and generally eat less overall Sat & Sun. A 180 from before I started this program. I think I eat a little more during the week than weekends now. Weight seems to be stable for the past few weeks with about a .5 lb variance from day to day but the past 3 days my weight has been exactly the same.

I kept my mouth shut to keep the temperature down but WOChrisL was just too dumbfounded to speak.

I have been trying to pawn her off on @MickinMD. He has the two things she’s looking for. A pulse & money… Cmon Mick do me a solid & take her off our hands! 😂

They were pretty real a couple of seasons ago…

Yeah and I have some darker & light shirts as well as burgundy & black shoes to mix it up. Fortunately I have proportionate dimensions so am fairly easy to fit off the rack.

I can’t speak for her early childhood but her parents divorced when she was 10 and so she basically cared for her 2 YO brother while she went out partying looking for the next meal ticket. WOChrisL still has a lot of resentment for how she was then. MIL has always been me first. I said this ages ago but she was the only grandmother I have ever known to yell at her 8 YO grandson for eating something she wanted. My mom would give her grand kids anything they wanted as we would for CJ. She seems disinterested any anyone who is not a potential husband.

Somewhere there is a picture of my brother & I in our #18 jerseys as kids. I have been a Rams fan a very long time… My brother texted me the news yesterday.

Well she’s gone! WOChrisL unleashed a tirade on her Sat night and it was a get the fuck out moment this morning. My kids came over to hang out with her and she basically closed herself off in her room talking to the widow. It struck a nerve with my wife as it’s been consistent with her behavior the whole trip. Take me to La Jolla, she does and MIL has her nose buried in her phone. We took her to dinner Friday and other than complain about the service her nose was buried in her phone. WOChrisL is thinking of never inviting her back as she seems totally uninterested in seeing her family. My favorite moment was Thursday. I came home & WOChrisL had cooked a meal. Not being an experienced cook, she barely made enough for two let alone 3. The MIL comes in the kitchen & serves herself about 80% of the dish! I tell WOChrisL I’ll eat left overs and she serves the rest. Then MIL says, oh my eyes were bigger than my stomach & 1/2 her serving goes in the trash!?!! As usual she got hers, to hell with anyone else…
