  1. 21 is old enough to drink. Maybe a really good bourbon.
  2. Jerks will blow through articles like this because there are NO BULLET POINTS!
  3. Rapid City has a gravel trap when you descend into town on Hwy 16. Saw an 18 wheeler embedded to its frame rails once. Could have been ugly if it had roared into town with that much speed!
  4. WoW and I try not to step on each other’s toes too much. We each have our strengths. If we try something new, we ask the opinion of the other about how it turned out. We try to be honest but constructive.
  5. Scottish Ales and Imperial Brown are my go to beers. But this time of year I prefer IPAs and unfiltered wheat beers. They just taste better in warm weather. That said, I do find variations from batch to batch in smaller brewers. The small scale makes uniformity a bigger challenge.
  6. Some ghosts carry baseball bats into cornfields….
  7. The 21st would be my best chance. I will be working the other days listed. 9/11 would be a great day for me. I will be doing the 75 mile Scratchtoberfest ride that day.
  8. Watched some of the Tour and the F1 sprint. Hauled out a pickup load of fallen branches and volunteer saplings from the fence line. Scraped overspray off the windows and washed all the windows. Repaired WoW’s carpet cleaner. Hung rope light on the patio. Went for a drive in the Miata and got some blizzards at DQ and some frozen cinnamon rolls to bake in the morning. Supposed to be a rainy, lazy day tomorrow.
  9. All I know is she started listing a lot of birds and I figured swallows had to be in there somewhere. African or European I don’t know…..
  10. As long as they don’t leave coconuts around the yard.

    Jury duty

I was in the jury pool 11 years ago. The 3rd time in I was selected. As they questioned me, I knew the defense attorney from his firm that I service. It was professional and I had answered other questions in such a way that did not disqualify me. Finally the judge asked if there are any personal issues that could be a distraction. I truthfully stated my dad had been in the hospital in Lincoln for 2 months and in fact was going in for surgery the next day. The judge excused me before I finished the last sentence. A few days later I was at the firm and the attorney walked up to me, "you were SOO in the jury before you replied about your dad's situation. I will have to remember that if I need to get out!"
  12. We will be ramping up for the state fair. But depending on the day, and how things go there, I’m sure I can get some in.
  13. I’ve been having to fast forward to the good parts this year. Hulu has them all for me if I need to go back to check something I missed.
  14. 6 on the commute 13 on the casual ride. All on the commuter

    Small town crime

It’s only a crime if they rummage through Mrs Brundage’s garden
  16. Either Mick had his camera pointed the wrong way or it was synchronized selfies!
  17. My borther lives in downtown Chicago. They will be moving to South Dakota in the next couple weeks. Not because of the crime, but because of Illinois' high taxation rates. They live in a nice part of downtown. He likes to get out and walk. As RG has noted, you stay aware of your surroundings and change course if things don't feel right. Heck, in our small city of 50,000, people are afraid to walk down 4th street because of the high concentration of immigrant businesses and therefore immigrant customers. I will mention a great place we went for food and people think we are nuts for going there. Granted, there are a couple blocks where you can find trouble if you want it. but it's just a matter of being aware of where you are.
  18. Among the medical professionals I know personally, only a couple are chunky. So it does surprise me the percentage I see in medical facilities who are larger. The ones I talk to who do shift work admit healthy eating is a challenge. Salads are hard to get on the graveyard shift and most times they need food they can quickly snarf down before the next buzzer goes off. When I was at the home improvement store there were times as a department head that you had to do overnight shifts to reset your area or do inventory prep. It was pretty rough.
