  1. I took the bike for a ride. The straps held the tent in place very well. I rode over washboard and potholes on a gravel road. It's gold.
  2. They are just removed from your device once they are due. You can check it out again if you have not finished with Hoopla. With other services you might have to wait in line if someone else has it checked out just like a print book.
  3. @Philander Seabury It might be an apple thing. It's working fine on my android.
  4. Amazon sells live wild animals? How the fuck did they ship it?
  5. One way to troubleshoot Hoopla is to delete the app completely and reload it. There might be updates in a new version. If this doesn't work, call your library. They might be aware of others having the problem and give you a fix.
  6. I have not had that problem, but I have just been checking out music and audiobooks on Hoopla lately.
  7. The goal of bikepacking is to find places like this. We will have the rest of the week to ride singletrack unencumbered. This bikepacking trip is just an overnighter that we had planned last year before the pandemic through a wrench into everything. We are planning a 200 mile singletrack hut trip this summer.
  8. I've compressed it with two Voile straps and then strapped it to the bike with two junk straps. I'll take it for a ride down some gravel roads to see how it holds.
  9. Junk straps are the bomb.
  10. Deet to keep them off. Throw your clothes in the dryer for 20 minutes and it will take care of them when you are finished hiking. Check your body in the mirror when you have your clothes off. Mostly they will be on your legs. Ticks don't fly, they just grab things walking by in the grass.
  11. I'm not worried about weight. I've bikepacked with this tent before. I am more worried about it staying put in my frame with a couple of junk straps.
  12. This is our tent. Mostly, I'm curious if this will hold off-road. I might take it down some gravel roads to test it. Our mt bike trails won't be rideable until May or June.
  13. She never mentions $4mil in this book. I've seen calculations on $1mil. It's really about paying off debt, save as much as you can, spend as little as needed, draw 3% of your retirement, wait until 70 for SS. I've picked up some good ideas and plan to read a few more books. I'm working through David Pogue's book now.
  14. You lose about 25-30% of your SS by taking it early. If you don't plan to live long then that is a good idea. If you plan to live into your 80s or later, you could be leaving money on the table. The avg difference is $111,000. If you think SS will go away, then grab it while you can.
  15. Do you think she denies knowing him? "He's not with me."
  16. How was it? 100% delicious or just 99%?
  17. This is my bivy. It's the Marmot alpinist bivy. I will attach my sleeping bag to the handlebar. We'll be using 20F bags, sleeping at 7000 ft so it could be cold. We won't die, but it could get uncomfortable. My GF has three bivy sacks. One is gortex, one is for big walls(think about sleeping on El Cap attached to the wall) and one is minimalist. Bivy sacks are light and easy to carry. That tent is a little sketchy on my bike. I have attached it using a couple of junk straps and squished it with Voile straps. Duct tape might work better. I tried to attach my Salsa anything cradle and my handlebar and the bar is too big. I might just duct tape everything to the bike and call it good.
  18. It is pretty awesome. The park road was just plowed an opened to bikes yesterday. We get one month without cars. The bike path is buried under 2-4 ft of snow currently. Once the road is open to cars it can be challenging. It would be great if they extended the path to Yellowstone. There is still a lot of snow and we will get more tomorrow, but it sure is pretty. The path from town to the park is still covered with snow and closed along the elk refuge until the elk leave. They seem content to stay for a while.
  19. Today was the first Chester A. Arthur ride to celebrate our 21st president's visit to the GYE. While we did not enter Yellowstone NP(The south entrance is not open yet), we did ride to Flagg Ranch. It was a gorgeous day, but very windy. The inner park road was ours. No cars allowed until May.
  20. I've heard she took a lot of flack for the $4mil thing. I have not read it. The book is full of a lot of commonsense stuff. It's not awful and she has options. It's fairly reasonable stuff. Her argument about 70 is people are living longer. And if you retire earlier, don't take ss until 70 because you will make more in the long run. The five steps you listed are pretty much what she says. She also discusses tax implications and safety nets. She also talks about a second act too or part-time work that is fun to cover costs and healthcare. It's not a bad book. She is all about financial independence empowerment for women.
  21. Next time you visit sit on the couch in your underwear, drink beer, and watch Andy Griffith reruns. Their tune will change.
