  1. dinneR's post in To underscore the importance of waiting in line for a silent minute. was marked as the answer
A friend of mine passed away recently. He was my teacher, coach, and friend.
I had not seen from him in years. One day I got a call from an employee. "There's this guy here, says he knows you. His name is Sam." I'll be there in five. We reconnected. His positivity was infectious. I hired his son having met him once. Years later his son said I was the best boss. I trusted him to do his job and there was always beer in the fridge.
Sam's influence on me is huge. He was my swim coach and he could not swim. I will take a silent minute to remember Sam. The tributes to him are amazing. Former Speaker of the House, Four Star General. Friends.
Sam was a Cub's fan. We had to take a test during an 84 playoff game. Sutcliffe was on the mound. Sam wheeled in a tv and let us watch the game during the test. He would interrupt you to tell you Rick deserved the Cy Young Award.

I hope you threw away the pizza just to make a point.

I went to the local raptor center and heard a presentation about owls. They said owls are really dumb. They have tiny brains. Owls rely on their vision and hearing, otherwise they would starve.

It's part of your winter emergency kit. Sleeping bag, flashlight, water, and cake.

  12. dinneR's post in Apparently, Carrying A Cell Phone Is A Good Idea. A LIFE Saver In Many Cases was marked as the answer
The drone search tool is pretty cool.
This discussion is interesting. I'll add this for consideration. Being trackable is not just for you. Consider going for a hike and getting lost. A family member reports you missing and Search and Rescue has to come find you. By making it more difficult, you have put them at risk.
We still have a missing person in the Tetons. Last summer there were at least four, all deceased.
Personally, I own a Garmin InReach, a BCA avalanche beacon, my phone with the Backcountry SOS app, and some of my gear has Recco devices.
My GF performed one rescue on the Grand. It's safe to say, being able to communicate with the rangers and S&R saved the lives of two people.

This is the only tool you should use to fix a printer.

Why choose? Pour yourself a bourbon and enjoy both.
  17. dinneR's post in Thursday Night Football was marked as the answer
Practice is overrated. Gargliardi never let his teams hit during practice and he won more games than any coach in College history. He said that was how players got injured.
There's always Iverson's view on practice.

  20. dinneR's post in Hey denniS - does hoopla act ok for you for e-books? was marked as the answer
One way to troubleshoot Hoopla is to delete the app completely and reload it. There might be updates in a new version. If this doesn't work, call your library. They might be aware of others having the problem and give you a fix.

  22. dinneR's post in I’m responsible for reviewing all work was marked as the answer
You should totally come work here. I'm on boss number 4 in the last year. It's hard to be held accountable if they don't know your name.

  24. dinneR's post in Bikepacking Journal was marked as the answer
I finally got around to opening the latest issue. Lael Wilcox is on the cover from her trip to Colombia. There is a good write up and video of the trip out there.
If you are into print, the journal is fabulous. Great stories and photography. It feels good in your hands. Occasionally, they send a print. This copy came with stickers.

  25. dinneR's post in Wheelbase / Toe Overlap was marked as the answer
I've got toe overlap on at least one of my bikes. It's not a big deal unless you crash and die then it's a big deal.
