It's not so much a souring, IMO, just that they didn't want to keep paying him like he was a top tier QB for the next 2 seasons when he hadn't been playing like one. If he were to get hurt in these next 2 games, they'd be on the hook for 2 years, $77M (IIRC), fully guaranteed. And even if he didn't get hurt, they only had a few weeks after the season before that 2nd year became fully guaranteed anyway. So, knowing they are not going to sign on for that guaranteed second year, they had to do what they had to do. Unless Wilson is willing to negotiate, his contract now has negative trade value (no one else in the league is on board for 2/77M guaranteed either), so they'll have to cut him. Good news for him, and the team he goes to, is he's a FA so can pick his team - and - the team he goes to will have a small cap charge for him (only have to pay him vet min since Broncos have to pay the rest) and no loss of picks.
