CNN is a tabloid. MSN plays around depending on the month, Fox is a GOP shill.
It's a Federal Republic. It is what it is. Technological changes allow people to watch whatever fits their narratives now. You know this to be true. No different than going to church to hear what you want to hear, instead of staying home and watching demonic programming like Sesame Street. The internet radicalizes people who would probably be out collecting stamps 30 years ago. White as a sheet teenagers finding solace in the ideals of ISIS, etc, etc.....
I've no illusions that the USA was ever fated to survive 200, 300, or 500 years. It will end and give way to some other form of government perhaps, most likely due to the societal changes that population sizes, diversity, and other factors bring into play. You or I may perceive them as bad, but that's because in both cases, we are holding onto ideals fixed in a place in time, and are refusing in several cases, to change with them. Both of us. My son, however I raise him, will have a very different outlook on what the USA 'is' than we do. As will his kids, etc. This alone may spell the end of the nation as we see it. I think it ultimately has little to do with the miniscule politics we bicker about. It's not like any of the 'scandals' outlined by Nate above have the legs to survive being written into a history book, no more than the scandal of 'no wmds' will likely fit in the same.
