I do that too, but only on the regular clues which come fast and furious. Final Jeopardy gives you plenty of time to figure out what the question is. I didn't mean to demean her in any way. I'm sure she is a lot more knowledgeable than I am. It was just that after I had wracked my brain trying to figure out when the first LA Olympics occurred (I knew 84 but couldn't remember the first one), it was kind of a shock to see her answer the way she did. And Ralph is right, it was a runaway, so it didn't matter. It seemed a bit humorous at the time. Actually, I hate Final Jeopardy. It plays too big of a part in who wins. One person can excel during the regular game, but if it isn't a runaway, that person can lose everything on one quirky clue at the end. Not fair or fun, IMO.

So I was doing one of my crosswords this morning and the clue was "chili base". IOW, the very basic ingredient and upon which all other ingredients are added in order to make chili. The answer was "beans". Like Jeopardy, crossword puzzles are never wrong.
