  1. There was a coffee I could drink black, but it's extinct now (literally).

    Saturday!

My wife finally got the vacuum cleaner fixed and used it yesterday. Literally scared the crap out of the cat, which I stepped on.

    Saturday!

We were doing a cycling vacation in Vermont. It had been hot, and I was in a bad mood. I don't like heat. We went to see a movie just to get out of the heat, it was Pirates of the Carib.. The beginning hit me the wrong way, but I didn't want to go outside into the heat. Suddenly, it made sense, and I had a great time. I got up at 2. I've already done the treadmill, 6 minutes more than last time. My wife wants to do something today, if she can remember what it was. If she can't, I am going to vote for Freeport and that middle eastern restaurant.
  4. I can remember when those were cool, and dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
  5. Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. It's been 68 years since my last confession. I have been avoiding coffee because I always have it with sugar. But, for a few days now, I have been having a half cup that I steal from my wife's French Press. This morning I had chai at 2 AM, with apple sweetener, and I will have coffee later. I will do penance on the treadmill, but we both know the damage is done. Wonder if a cat o nine tails would help me lose weight.
  6. Got ya all beat, I had a TI 99, which prob ought to win the 'Worst Computer Ever' award.

Thanks, I really appreciate that, and for letting me know.

I've been giving money to Liz and Sarah Gideon, who is running for Collin's seat. I've been talking about working for the Gideon campaign, if I can pull it off. I was an activist, Nam protester, one of the millions that worked towards getting environmental regs. I even did a little phone work for the ERA. After the ERA went down in flames, I realised that had been a mistake, and changed my tactics. Long story, this isn't really the place for it.

The reason you see dozens of political posts go unremarked is because those comments don't excite cognitive dissonance. One of the things a person needs to develop is a tolerance of cognitive dissonance.

I was hoping one or two of you would go look at the post. I think one of the topics is extremely important.

What I said was that there was no politics here.

    Double standard

Last political thread I saw here had 32 posts, many of them political, before I did post 33. That's when the whining started. I just started a thread that had zero political content. Let me repeat that, zero. But it did link to a post I did in another forum that was political. It disappeared in a matter of seconds. That sort of thing has a name. Oh yes, hypocrisy.
  14. Green or white tea would be an alternative. You don't want to get the cheap stuff, but I can tell you what I do. Here's the killer, green tea is really, really good for you. It even slows down some cancers. The caffeine level is tiny. You need to get the water close to 190F. Boiling is just too hot. Brew times are only a minute or two. Depends on the tea, and on what you like. So... Mighty Lead Green Tea Tropical. Brew time 2 minutes. There should be a blue plastic scoop in the bag, one heaping scoop for 12 ounces. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CNSZFK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 What I am actually doing... I use the Mighty Leaf and brew for a little over a minute. I then whip a little Matcha into the brew. https://www.amazon.com/Jade-Leaf-Matcha-Green-Powder/dp/B014LT0712/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=matcha&qid=1582295664&s=grocery&sr=1-8

    X-ray risk

I wouldn't worry about it. You can get cancer from drinking water. But at that point the odds are less than one in a million. And something will eventually get you, does it matter if it's 50 years later? Here's some perspective, after we nuked Japan, Japan set up a study to track the health of the survivors. It's still going. Konnichi wa.
  16. Our excise was less than 1/3 of what SW paid. Call it tax avoidance.
  17. Back when I commuted I had dual lights front and back.
  18. That reminds of a scene in Ryan's Daughter, where Sarah Miles is running in a nightgown and backlit by moonlight. That was the moment I found out breathtaking wasn't just a metaphor.
  19. sitting in a cramped seat for several hours would make me a prime candidate for an embolism. my last trip to europe was that cycling trip in Italy. We stayed in nice places and ate in mostly good restaurants, and a couple great ones. I have no interest in budget trips now, esp. since it would mean a lot of economising for a couple years. just to add insult to injury, I need to buy a car this year...
  20. Watneys here isn't the same as Watneys there. Good stuff.
