  1. Since I haven't replaced my broken microwave, when I reheat some food dishes, I steam them. So the leftover food dish, is stored in a ceramic small bowl in fridge. I use the same container with food inside to steam the food in a pot of water. I try to wait for soup to cool down to store in plastic container. But sometimes the leftover amount is enough for the ceramic bowl. So I use that. Increasingly, I try to use plastic containers to store only cooled down food or chopped up raw produce for freezer or fridge. ie. sliced pineapple, squash, washed berries, etc.
  2. Yesterday I went out with a friend and I had a ramen noodle soup with chasu pork slices, etc. Prelude were 2 raw oysters. Afterwards, I felt sugar-high and a bit awful for few hrs. It might be the wrong noodle type for me which surprised me. I'm not sure what was used to make that noodle dough. Previously I never felt like that when I ordered the same dish 3 months ago. It was a Japanese restaurant. There is a range of pasta types (depending on its dough base), breads that I can't eat because I go into a sugar-crash high. For instance, for me to have udon noodle is probably not a good idea. I can have rice vermicelli dish, but probably not a good idea for me have same type of carb 3 days in row. I can't eat a whole slew of national grocery chain breads..my body responds negatively. I need to buy only certain artisan bakery breads. I was careful how much rice I had / frequency when travelling in Asia. I know....but I no longer eat rice at home for past 15 yrs. because of near diabetes 2 test reading I had.
  3. 95% of the line-ups I've been in, even during covid, at grocery stores, were not that long. Waiting for 10 min. or less, to me, is very minor. My mind wanders and sometimes I look at other people's carts what they buy...and how much their total bill is.
  4. A good thing for eating less. Maybe add even more berries in morning. It has not solved my sweet tooth. As I've said in other threads, basically over past 15 yrs. my body has wound down to needing only 2 meals --breakfast and 1 other meal. I eat snacks here and there, which can be problematic. And finish eating supper by approx. 6:00 pm or way earlier. Even finish by 5:00 pm.
  5. I've had it as a spread, in cheesecake with other ingredients. That's all. I don't have it much this past decade or more.
  6. Vancouver simply confirmed, the container ship travelling in area of Port of Vancouver, must have by federal law, escort (tug boat) service. Bridge safety in Metro Vancouver questioned after Baltimore ship strike, collapse (msn.com)
  7. I agree and hope restaurants don't slap on wild boar if it's domestic. Wonder for larger, more mature wild boar, what "gamey" tastes like.
  8. Alberta's Squeal on Pigs campaign seeing success in battle against wild boar | CBC News Well over 20 yrs. ago, we saw black hairy wild boar skittering across the icy highway, when we were coming back by car from a ski resort. It looked darn weird and ugly.
  9. Big trend withdrawal from smoking (well, there is vaping) in North America, is really noticeable if one visits countries that have lagged super slow on smoking ban. It did surprise us in 2017 that Japan still was slow. ie. smoking still allowed in restaurants. Plastic barriers, were just a joke in some of those otherwise nice mid-level restaurants. I hear they've gotten a bit better. I had assumed that a culture that was super organized, so lovely in preservation of many things and polite people, would have banned smoking faster. It seemed conflicting to eat sushi/sashimi in a smoke-filled rm. Just totally wrong.
  10. Clearly your next permanent home, needs to be not super far from a lake or at least, not so close to flood.
  11. Best of luck Airhead in getting the right graphite pencils for yourself. Beyond my interest in drawing pencils for sketching of different softness and hardness ...and yea, charcoal pencil vs. charcoal stick.. my other use and interest are dip-ink steel nib calligraphic pens and ....calligraphic markers. Pen Nibs - Speedball Art Itoya Calligraphy Marker – Itoya There are certain brands where the nib is cut at a certain angle to allow greatest ease to execute certain styles of lettering. Some markers are just not great for holding in hand, comfortably to do certain styles of hand lettering, especially fine lettering.
  12. We probably would be shocked by the infrastructure condition of some international cargo ships. There was a media expose for an international cargo ship at the Port of Vancouver. Because of heavy loading and unloading traffic at port, there has been (often) line-up of several cargo ships for weeks (one can see them when in Vancouver harbour area) and hence, people (foreigners) working on the ships remain there. The expose I saw, allowed a local chaplain to board, etc.
  13. I'm polite....and usually it's not hard to figure out vibe of other woman, based on gut feel, after 1-3 interactions. Reality is my friends do tend to fall within similar, but broad spectrum even though with some very different lifestyles. For sure, some diverse age ranges. Spending friendship time for me in terms of a "long" time is several hours together mininum or even longer with a good friend. That has been the norm for me in past few decades. Much of it is talking, not just wordlessly doing stuff for several hrs. I'm not at all, 1-2 hr. friend person, when I do stuff each time, with a good friend. Time spent is 98% with each friend, longer than that. So I respectfully disagree... am very blessed with multiple friendships 50 yrs. long to 13 yrs. long. Several friends where I've vacationed with each for several days. I expect such friendships.....for life, with some, since teen or university days. Do understand this is sustaining friendships and making efforts to visit each other, in different locations across Canada. And visiting each other several times. Most of my friends aren't into facetiming or frequent lengthy phone calls. (Obviously different for other folks here.) Life for all us, is full of interesting details and complications that's too much to convey online.
  14. Yea sure. Single life is just so sh*tty. Right, @Randomguy . 1 dunno...I'm trying to schedule better, to space out intervals of dead time between seeing good friends: Just got an invitation to stay at Chicago blogger's home for 2-3 nights. Good heavens, how generous. After yesterday, I asked for and got some Chicago hotel recommendations from blogger 2. Bloggers 1 & 2 know each other..which is good. Later this wk.: Will be seeing a good friend tomorrow or later. It depends on her leg healing and how far she wants to walk in different direction, amongst snow ice and slush. Doing stuff almost weekly before she returns to her Toronto home next month. Next wk: Another good friend in smaller town is itchin' to get out of her independent assisted living condo bldg. and probably be with someone not in her age group 80-90's. I think she wants to expand beyond, nice, but fairly conservative group of residents. Will see her early next wk. Am waiting to hear from eldest niece re my idea to support promoting her novels. She probably won't respond for another 1-2 months. Oh well. Longest known local friend here: I plan to suggest we meet up well after Easter. Then there's a former work colleague who just emailed me. We'll probably go cycling together in 3 wks. when snow fully melts off. I'm interested hearing more about her Spain trip. I'm sure we'll talk about local politics... we did after all, work for the municipality. I also believe in general and based purely observation, which needs scientific testing: women form and keep their friendships a bit differently, which makes some of their in-person friendships last longer, than many guys. This might account for natural longevity of women, as living longer than men by 2-3 yrs.
