Spain is not a dry heat, either.

There are a few houses I ride by in NoVa that are "VW houses". Usually a bug, bus, and other VWs in the driveway. Never see them all "fully restored" but more in a "One day!" state. Bitchin' Rides guy is a HUGE classic VW guy. Raves about them all the time. My friend in CA has a whole bunch of VWs - also in the "Some day!" category.

All propaganda by Big Toilet and Accessories!!!!! NO ONE picks up cat poop outside, and there are bazillions of cats outside. Poop of any and all kinds can cause disease! Rat poop FTW!! And a good rain/snow takes care of ALL poop outside, otherwise dog poop would be up to our ears in parks and trails.

eSims are super easy and you can get them ahead of the trip, set them up, but then turn them "on" when you land. All modern cell phones can handle them. For "GPS", keep in mind it works ANYWHERE in the world as long as it can see the sky. Your phone will always know where you are as long as you're not in a tunnel or heavily obstructed place. BUT, it will only know the GPS coordinates for where you are, when in reality, a human needs those coordinated plotted on a MAP (overlay). So, for a phone, the options are 1) "pre-download the map overlays (in Google Maps)" which will give you a ready representation of those coordinates on a Google Map assuming the area was part of your downloaded maps or 2) have a data plan/wifi when using the Google Maps (or Apple Maps) and it will take the coordinates and constantly pull down the appropriate map overlay in real time. Obviously, the upside of real time is that it enables all the smart stuff Google maps can do like routing for speed, avoid tolls, no highways, whatever. Plus it will always be updating traffic conditions and the names of stores nearby and links to their reviews, etc.. But with no or a dodgy internet connection, that turns to useless fairly fast. For me, I'm usually going to download a map(s) of a city for offline use, but I also generally have wifi via the esim or hotel. A while back, I didn't bother with an esim for a city trip, and relied on the hotel, museum, and cafe wifi - which worked great with the downloaded maps, BUT I realized it didn't work when out and about and asking Google Maps for the quickest walking path between two points since it needed the internet for that effort. An "old school" Garmin/TomTom/etc GPS will come with regional maps already downloaded (same as cars used to). If you rent a car, it may most likely have all the GPS function you need built into it already or they may "rent" one to you for a fee. If you were to bring your classic GPS from home with you to Scotland, likely you would NOT have the UK maps on the device, so possibly would essentially have the same situation as Google Maps on your phone with no internet.

My friend had a VW Bug in HS & college. I shuttled his car home one weekend in college, and while that car was a ball to drive (so wacky), it had shit brakes, shit windshield wipers, no AC and a hole/vent for heat, and the engine was anemic. Still, it was oddly fun to drive because it was stick shift (which adds plenty of points) and it handled in a fun way I wasn't used to coming from my 1980 Rabbit and my 1988 small pickup. If I had kids, I would reconsider it too. He did have a nice stereo in it, so that was good on the 2 hour drive in the rain and dark.

Now that @Kzoo has abdicated his role in parody scoring, you really can't hope for much better than I'm tossing out Sorry to disappoint, but the blame lays at that clown's feet talons.

I see that in a lot of the Velopigs strava ride names. Reston BC recently sent out an email saying they were considering adding a gravel ride option to the century this year. A 50-60 miler that shares the centurie's rest areas but would cover LoCo's gravel roads. I think it's a neat idea if they can pull it off.

We keep the toilets clean, but that was a PITA when remodeling was going on and the work guys would have free access to the bathroom. Luckily, the floor folks included a housekeeping service at the end of their time as they really make a mess with dust and such, and the bathroom cleaning was part of that (even. in the contract).

Be VERY wary of when you return the van. If they spot dog hair, that's an opportunity for the classic "deep clean" up charge. We rented Pacificas going out to and returning from CA, and on the return, I didn't want to bother vacuuming out the van after a weeklong trip. $100 fee because our pup had the prime middle passenger area, and she sheds when pet.

For years (since COVID and WFH started), my "go to" spot for pooping was the downstairs bathroom where I generally am closest too while having breakfast and coffee. In recent weeks, I've shifted to the upstairs guest bathroom as it is a little more private and near my office. The downstair bathroom has all new stuff from the remodel, including a new toilet, and until I am 100% sure it's a "good" toilet - ie able to handle the load - I'm sticking with the tried and true one upstairs!
