  1. And society is paying the price for that, as individuals will.
  2. I've never made yogurt. I may try for the fun of it.
  3. No doubt. I'm talking more at the population level. It's more of a challenge when you want to read, re-read, highlight a section to go back to, look up references and then go back to the text, yada yada. Are any university textbooks offered as audio books?
  4. Sorry, but I'm hard pressed to believe that listening to an audio book is anywhere close to the efficiency of reading when it comes to learning.
  5. So I enjoy using my slow cooker. A few years back I bought a Instant Pot pressure cooker and love it. Use it for steaming veggies, cooking rice (got rid of my dedicated rice cooker), soups, etc. It has a slow cook option. Going to try it today to see how it compares with the dedicated slow cooker. It'd be nice to be able to get rid of another thing.
  6. There are reasons I've stayed in the VA house for 20+ years. I had no appraisal done on the house in FL; after ~18 months of a lot of work, I felt tuned in to the market. Besides, as I told my agent, the sale of the house (in FL) was going to be my executor's issue.
  7. Good point; I hadn't thought of that.
  8. My 3% represented 1/2 the standard commission of 6%, so I was just saying that if the buyer is paying the commission, on a house of any given value, *their* cost will go up by 3%. A *good* seller's agent can definitely be well worth it.
  9. Yeah, for a buyer with an agent, you've just increased the price of your house by ~3%.
  10. About two-thirds of FL's state revenue comes from their sales tax. Due to the high tourist volume (including snowbirds), they get a lot of state revenue from those living in other states or countries. As I've stated in another thread, I'm all for funding services if they are truly providing good, valuable services. For example, I'm impressed with Sarasota county and am happy to pay to support them.
  11. Krispy Kreme Challenge, held annually. Run 2.5 miles to Krispy Kreme. Eat a dozen donuts. Return 2.5 miles. http://krispykremechallenge.com/
  12. Florida...no state taxes. Music to my ears.
  13. So this is a laptop? An old one? Just wondering why a laptop of any recent vintage would have a HD instead of a SSD. Or at least, wondering why you would have bought one that way. I upgraded my desktop's HD to a SSD. It was a 2008 desktop and I did it when I upgraded from XP to 2007.
  14. I did a high level first pass and, as expected, it's butt ugly due to the financial circus I went through last year to buy the new home in November.
  15. Pretty simple: it's the cost of admission. Don't comply? Off the team (I'm presuming the parent is the parent of a team member).
  16. Next time your co-worker has gotten a pay cut I'll tell you that you got a pay raise. Or when I lose weight that you've gained.
  17. Other thing to remember is that things change as one's prefrontal cortex matures. The boomers were the protesting, etc., cohort in the 1960s. I imagine those speculating, back in the 60s, on how the boomers would change the future would have been a bit surprised.
