  1. I won tickets to the Phoenix Rising soccer home opener Saturday evening. Last weekend was also the Tempe Festival of the Arts. We did a quick Costco run then went up to the Art Festival. It was a beautiful afternoon. We walked among the crowd checking out the artists displays. Some brilliant artists around here! All we bought was some locally made salsas. The crowd had lots of dogs with them. We went to have a drink and listen to a Latin Band on the plaza. As we sat, several dogs came up to me at various times to say hi. I’m not sure what vibe I was giving off, but it was pretty cool! One lady even said her Dutch Shepherd typically didn’t trust men. She could believe he liked me so much! Really made me want a dog again….
  2. There are some repairs going on at the shelter and some dogs had to move for the day. This is Rose and we went for a walk along the river And I stop at the dam to look for some fish but only saw some Ducks now I need a nap and I'm going to snore real loud
  3. Oooboo is going to get neutered this morning.
  4. Jax saying good morning to me.
  5. ...takes on new meaning when where you work is the largest cruise ship in the world: ...and when your pup outranks you as the CDO (Chief Dog Officer): ...but he is a "water" dog! The new Icon of the Seas will feature a Chief Dog Officer when it enters service later this month. According to Royal Caribbean International’s social media profiles, the golden retriever will live onboard while serving as “family dog” of Icon’s crew. The new crew member, Rover, boarded the ship in Puerto Rico, along with its Chief of Staff Alison Hubble. “As a crew member on the Icon, Rover’s job is to bring joy and happiness to her fellow crew and guests onboard,” Royal Caribbean said in a social media video. Among its activities onboard, the Chief Dog Officer is poised to hang out on the bridge with the captain, and also perform daily walks across the ship, the company added. The five-month-old golden retriever will also be able to “explore the Caribbean shores and beautiful ports,” Royal Caribbean said. The Icon of the Seas is currently undergoing final preparations ahead of its maiden voyage. Starting on Jan. 27, the vessel is set to offer a series of week-long cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. During its inaugural season, the Icon of the Seas will visit several destinations in the region, including Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Basseterre, St. Kitts, and Roatan, Honduras. Delivered to Royal Caribbean International in late November, the LNG-powered cruise ship recently arrived at its homeport in Miami for the first time. Taking over the title from its fleet mate Wonder of the Seas, the Icon will serve as the world’s largest cruise ship. At 250,800 tons, the 365-meter-long ship was built by the Meyer Turku in Finland, and can accommodate over 5,610 guests at double occupancy, in addition to 2,350 crew members.

  7. ....but she loved running on the beach. She ignored the waves & ocean as much as possible, and gave some horses a wide berth, but she ran ran ran like a youngster.

    Dog boots

Anyone here use them? Judie wants to get some for Jax. She says his feet get cold and he wants to come in too often but he loves the snow so he wants to go back out in five minutes. Anytime we put boots on an animal it was funny to watch them walk but they didn’t like them.

    Birthday Boy!

Somebody is 4 today! HBD Smokers!!!
  10. We have been working to help Otto tolerate grooming for months and months. Today with two of his favorite people, a muzzle, and some vey high power treats, we had some success. Beard, face, and feet will happen later. He had a non- traumatic experience. He had fewer instances of snarling and trying to bite. He is now hanging out with Paulie with a toy. He is a testament to the power of patience, praise, and repeated exposure. Well worth the work. I was wearing heavy gloves smeared with peanut butter. Also feeding him mashed frozen strawberries.
  11. @Airehead What boots and jackets do I need to get for Ella and Cicero?

    A dogs life!

Daughter sent this picture this morning, Smokey loves having his peeps home (CJ has been home sick).
  13. They value their street dogs. They are part of Chilean culture and they are well cared for by the citizens. Recently, groups have been providing funding to have the animals chipped and tracked for annual vaccines, fleas and ticks. Food is never a problem as most homes and businesses leave food and water outside. The government want to start a sterilization program but the citizens rejected it. Best of all, there have been very few attacks from street dogs, they are very social and have adapted well to polite street life.
  14. My pup is a "perfect" angel. Kind, obedient, and generally a joy to be around. Like ChrisL's pup, she older - probably 14 - so we know her habits - good and bad. Anyway, I'm sitting on the couch having my lunch - a pb&j sandwich - and she knows I'll give her some pb or maybe crust from it. She generally hops up on the couch and gives me the stare until I give her some. Sometimes, a bit of drool enters the equation, and maybe a slight whine if I keep her waiting for too long. TODAY, though, my wife started chatting with me about something or other, so I stopped eating my sandwich (still in my hand though), and turned toward my wife to say some stuff. BOOM!!! My pup decided to take a bite of the sandwich!!!! WTF???? She was unable to actually snatch it from my hand or get a bite off of it, but she definitely TRIED! First time ever. I think she might be planning a take over tonight while we sleep.
  15. Rex wasn’t impressed with the foo foo breeds.
  16. A rat terrier! He likes smart, inexpensive, and good for city-living! We've got one, and she's da BOMB! Who’s a good boy girl? We ranked which dog breeds are a wallet’s best friend. The wagging tail, the companionship, the unconditional love. It’s not easy to put a price on man’s best friend, so we looked at data on the cost of ownership and a range of objectively desirable traits across dozens of dog breeds to determine which pup gives the best bark for your buck. Our cost-effective champion: the rat terrier. Bred to keep rodent infestations in check, the rat terrier comes out on top due to its 15-year average life expectancy, low maintenance and insurance costs, as well as high marks from the American Kennel Club for traits like affection and trainability. Breeders interviewed by The Wall Street Journal praised the rat terrier as a highly adaptable, do-anything type of dog with few health problems—a more mellow version of its popular cousin, the Jack Russell terrier. “It’s an easy dog to live with,” says Emily Hall, a rat terrier breeder in New York. “I can give a ratty a bath in five minutes—a pom, it’s going to be an hour.”
  17. Silly boy! This was from last week and he popped up between my legs from under the table looking for handouts from Opa.

  19. Dogs have been going along all season. Today will be the last day we are open. Yesterday we did some sled dog demos . Beretta and Shila are still tired this morning. also the grandpuppy Lily won best of show and best spirit awards at the Butler Blue homecoming. Lily now gets to help Blue pass out new student packets to all the incoming freshmen. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cy83DSGOshG/?img_index=1
  20. Déjà vu Bella our Beagle has been sick with some vomiting and diarrhea for the last 3 days. Bella must have gotten it from Parker. Yesterday we thought Bella was getting better. Nope... we had night 3 of taking the dog out about every 1 1/2 hours. Bella is at the vet's now. We pick her up in the afternoon.
  21. Vomiting and diarrhea for 2days now. This morning I thought he was getting better, he drank a lot of water for the first time. A short time later, he vomited it all out. While he was doing that, he felt over and started to convulse. That scared us enough he got a trip to the vet. Doc said he is anemic and dehydrated. He got a hydration shot, another to help with nausea. No food or water today. Another trip to the vet tomorrow. Yeah seeing the dog on it's side and convulsing.. I thought he was going to die. We lost another dog like that. It sounds like he should recover.
  22. dog. He is either zooming or sleeping. He went out with me this morning when I went out to take the sunrise pictures. He was zooming around the yard the whole time. Now he is sleeping at my feet.
