  1. ...for the US with Sepp Kuss, Brandon McNulty, Matteo Jorgensen, and Kevin Vermaerke are likely TdF starters. We'll see who else trickles in over the next week. Canada has Houle and Woods on the Israel team, as well as returning Antoine Duchesne.
  2. ...return to the Tour! I was worried about Sepp and the COVID riddled-Suisse team. Not a bad team. The five riders that will assist Wout van Aert, Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard in the battle for green and yellow are Sepp Kuss, Steven Kruijswijk, Christophe Laporte, Tiesj Benoot and Nathan Van Hooydonck.
  3. ...will be interesting to see if Ewan can be more "hit" than "miss" - especially against some of the other sprinters and a motivated Wout van Wert going for green???? Gilbert going for a final stage win? Caleb Ewan will lead Lotto Soudal in pursuit of stage victories at the Tour de France, while Philippe Gilbert will make his twelfth and final appearance in the event. Lotto Soudal’s Tour selection is built around Ewan’s sprint, and his lead-out train will include Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Frederik Frison, Florian Vermeersch and Brent Van Moer. Tim Wellens, who was denied Baloise Belgium Tour victory in controversial circumstances at the weekend, and Andreas Kron complete the eight-man roster.
  4. ...or has age and his incredibly awful crash a few years back too big to overcome? He's on the outside looking in for a TdF slot, and claims he is just now "comfortable" again on the bike, but is 37 too old? Valverde is older, but he also isn't truly a GC contender anymore.
  5. ...or not? I don't think it was "adrenaline" that was fueling Lance. But darn, that might be fun to watch in hindsight?
  6. Netflix Will Follow the 2022 Tour de France in a New Documentary Series In a bid to beef up its sports programming, Netflix is teaming up with Tour de France organizers A.S.O. to create a documentary series on the 2022 cycling competition, with the participation of public broadcaster France Télévisions. The eight-episode series will follow the journey of eight teams taking part in the iconic cycling race, starting from the preparation phase straight through to the finish line. It will weave in multiple perspectives, from cyclists to team managers. The race, which is traditionally broadcast in 190 territories, will see eight iconic teams competing, including AG2R Citroën Team, Alpecin-Fenix, BORA-hansgrohe, EF Education-EasyPost, Groupama-FDJ cycling Team, Ineos Grenadiers, Team Jumbo-Visma and Team Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl. Quadbox, a joint venture between QUAD and Box to Box Films (“Drive to Survive”), is producing the series. Filming will take place from March to July 2022 for a release on Netflix in the first quarter of 2023. France Télévisions will broadcast a 52-minute documentary a few days before the start of the 2023 Tour de France. “We are very proud to unveil new aspects of the emblematic Tour de France. This is a unique opportunity to dive into the stories of its inspiring characters!” said Dolores Emile, manager for EMEA unscripted and doc series for France at Netflix. Yann Le Moënner, director general of A.S.O., said the partnership “will offer fans a unique immersion behind the scenes” and will make the “sport more accessible and meet an even wider audience.” “Through a narrative approach, which is additive to the competition itself, the public will be able to discover how the Tour de France represents the ultimate challenge for the competitors; in particular, in terms of suffering, pushing their limits and team spirit,” said Le Moënner. Laurent-Eric Le Lay, sports director at France Télévisions, said that “as the historic partner and broadcaster of the Tour de France, we are delighted to participate in this project which will allow everyone to experience part of the daily life of champions and teams.”
  7. ...for Bernal. Heard about this yesterday, but seems way worse than I thought it was. As bad or worse than Froome's crash. BOGOTÁ, Colombia—Tour de France and Giro d’Italia champion Egan Bernal sustained extensive injuries in a crash during a training ride in his native Colombia on Monday that threatened one of the most promising careers in professional cycling. Bernal, 25-years-old, was in stable condition following “successful surgery” for a broken femur and patella, a damaged lung and spinal trauma, according to a statement Tuesday morning from Clínica La Sabana, a hospital on the outskirts of Bogotá, the Colombian capital. The accident occurred on a major highway about 20 miles north of Bogotá where Bernal, a hero in this Andean mountain nation as the first Colombian Tour de France winner, was conducting high-altitude training with his Ineos Grenadiers teammates. “Doctors were able to medically pin his right leg and stabilize the vertebrae fracture in two separate surgeries last night,” the team said on Tuesday. “He is now in an intensive care unit where other potential secondary injuries are being managed, as well as his body’s response to the trauma.” On Monday morning, Bernal was hunched-over in an aerodynamic position on an ultra-lightweight time-trial bike and didn’t notice that a bus ahead of him had stopped to drop off a passenger, said Col. Juan Castro, assistant director of Colombia’s transit police. Bernal slammed into the back of the bus at about 30 mph, leaving a huge dent in the vehicle and collapsing to the pavement. Team Ineos Grenadiers said that he was conscious when he was transported to the hospital. “He was so focused on his training that he didn’t notice that his teammates were screaming at him” to watch out, Col. Castro told reporters.
  8. At the place where I swim, they have Peloton bikes, which I have been meaning to try. So I did. First, I am generally not a big fan of spin classes, which tend to sound good until you find out a few things: The instructors are generally not cyclists They have extremely poor taste in music They won't shut the hell up, ever, and feel compelled to spout nonsense throughout They do the dumbest things, like repeated 2 second "jumps" out of the saddle, then back down, then out again, ad nauseum. Also stupid stretches that real cyclists see immediately for what they are, which are giant injury risks. I was hoping that Peloton found a way around these issues, but upon trying it, it turns out they mostly doubled-down on them. I tried a few different classes, and the instructors did strike me as folks not likely to own a bicycle, or to have a clue about stupid stuff to not do on a bike, like lift weights or 'stretch' (but you can look for classes without the weights at least). They still have poor taste in music, but you can find a class or so based on era or category, so the sucking is more finite. The instructors still will not stfu, ever, or at least didn't in the three different classes I jumped in on. Anyway, all the same limitations and 'one note' approach to cycling, which is the normal spin class that you see out in the world, including the aspects I don't enjoy. Add to that the downsides of not being able to discreetly perv on the hot students in your class. I would definitely prefer an actual ride simulation/non-spin platform personally. Anyway, I am definitely being harsh on Peloton, and I imagine non gym-goers and non-cyclists would glom onto it more than people like me, and it would also be good for other folks that just want to go along with things without thinking much about it, so there is that. Question for the Peloton folks - Can you stream Netflix to the monitor? I can see that being better than just a video of a spin class.
  9. ...more than some others, doesn't it? Mark Cavendish said his family were "extremely distressed" after a group of armed burglars assaulted the record holder for Tour de France stage wins and threatened his wife in a raid while his children were in the house. Four intruders entered Cavendish's home in Essex, south-east England, in what police described as a "targeted incident" in the early hours of November 27, as he was recovering from significant injuries from a crash at a track event in Belgium. Police said the group assaulted Cavendish, 36, and threatened his wife Peta in the presence of their young children. None of the family sustained serious injuries and the burglars left, stealing a designer suitcase and two high-value watches.
  10. How the Tour de France disguises the phallic artwork on its route ASO takes measures to hide the unwanted imagery fans paint on the thousands of kilometres of roads on the Grande Boucle turning genitals into owls and butterflies CANADIAN CYCLING MAGAZINE JULY 24, 2019 31 It’s a long-standing tradition for fans to paint the names of their favourite riders on the road. The Tour de France is the biggest platform for this sort of fandom. We’ve seen the names of Julian Alaphilippe, Thibaut Pinot, Peter Sagan and many more emblazoned across alpine roads over the nearly 3,500 km the Tour de France covers. There are also more, let’s say, creative artists who want their artwork to be seen by the biggest television audiences in pro bike racing. Race organizer ASO employs a crew of workers who drive the route ahead of the peloton every day with a bucket of paint. Their task is to creatively alter some of the images painted on the road that ASO would rather TV audiences don’t see. Chief among these images that need some altering are male genitals. The workers who disguise the genitals are the real artists. Cleaning the road surface of these images would be too time-consuming and expensive so instead, the workers add paint turning genitals into owls, butterflies and other creative imagery. The efforts are done so spectators and TV viewers don’t notice the original images. In a video produced by Dutch news agency NOS, the news agency follows two workers as they do their job on the Tourmalet, one of the most famous climbs to feature in this year’s Tour de France. 11. ...at the end. I think some guy or other will win, but some others will languish unexpectedly and there may be a crash or two.

  16. Any time they cut to him on the moto, he is yelling at the driver to speed up or slow down or some sort of nonsense. I'd hit a few potholes without warning him.

  18. The winner crossed the finish line ahead of all the other riders. If you hadn't opened this thread with the huge spoiler alert, you would have never known. But now, Stage Two is spoiled for you.
  19. Sorry. My mistake. We are not allowed to discuss cycling on this cycling site. Just curious. Did the TdF Spoiler tag confuse you?
  20. ...I will post photos of my project bicycles as I complete them. If they make me happy, perhaps some of it will rub off ? Here is a Ron Cooper I just put back into service. (Most of these will be old, and made from steel.......you have been warned.)
