Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted July 25, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 25, 2014 I'm contemplating a trip to Boston to the some of the historical sites. I see maps for a number of bike paths in that area and wondered if anyone familiar with them would share their view whether the paths were first and foremost safe, and what they are like to ride. In particular I see one paralleling the Charles River that might offer some interesting views, and one along the Navy Yard Grounds called 'Harborwalk'. Thanks... Former member Posted July 25, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 25, 2014 I don't think I would want to ride a tandem on the paths you mentioned, but there are great roads for cycling all over Cape Ann/the Northshore and where SW lives.
petitepedal ★ Posted July 25, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 25, 2014 I am debating bringing my bike to New York State...only because I haven't been on it much this year Sometimes city paths can be a bit tight on a tandem.
MoseySusan Posted July 25, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 25, 2014 We did not ride our bikes in Boston or the Boston area because of the amount of traffic, even in the outlying areas. mr. and #2 son rode their tandem on the Concord road from Lexington to Concord without any problems. I need to edit this: The route is called "Battle Road" and extends for five miles within the Minuteman National Park. They rode on this part, and I remember them riding some other parts, but there was a lot of traffic on the two-lane highway in between the national park and Lexington, MA. KrAzY Posted July 25, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2014 I would not bring the random, but I would bring a BIG box of tea to throw in their harbor
Nate Posted July 25, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 25, 2014 I think it depends...do you have somebody else to help pedal?
Reverend_Maynard Posted July 25, 2014 Share #7 Posted July 25, 2014 I wouldn't do it if you are only going to stay in and around the city. If you can get the time to drive out .5-1 hour away from the city, you can find some really beautiful riding.
Destination Posted July 25, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 25, 2014 I would not bring the random, but I would bring a BIG box of tea to throw in their harbor If I were to visit to Boston, would it be considered bad form if I ordered a cup of tea at a restaurant? Square Wheels Posted July 25, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 25, 2014 I concur with the above. There is lots of great riding in the areas Sue mentioned. You will definitely want to visit Minuteman in Concord. Lots of pretty roads and homes out that way. A tandem would be great out there. The Minuteman / Arlington bike path is OK, but very congested. That's how I get home. Lots of people, lots of cyclists. I've never seen a tandem. Plus there isn't much to see on that path. Riding along the Charles on a tandem could get a little hairy. I've only been on it s few times. We love tea, just not British tea.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted July 26, 2014 Author Share #13 Posted July 26, 2014 If you are north of Boston we always have a room available. If it's not a padded room I would probably have to respectfully decline! Seriously, you're kind and gracious to offer us a place in your home and without having met us too! <bows>
