a bunch of numbers Posted May 8, 2020 Share #3 Posted May 8, 2020 I remember reading a review of a roadmaster bike a long while back. The reviewer wrote it was akin to a pogo stick.
JerrySTL ★ Posted May 8, 2020 Share #4 Posted May 8, 2020 If you watch carefully, you'll see Dave draft a truck at 50 MPH while in the small chainring.

Parr8hed Posted May 8, 2020 Share #7 Posted May 8, 2020 I still cry every time that Italian team frame pumps Dave. As much as I love Breaking Away because it is so Indianay, I think American Fliers is a superior bicycle movie.

MoseySusan Posted May 8, 2020 Author Share #9 Posted May 8, 2020 I see racing. Maybe I suspend disbelief easily, but they look like they’re racing instead of acting like they’re racing. And I get caught up in the moment every time.

MickinMD ★ Posted May 8, 2020 Share #11 Posted May 8, 2020 Thanks for mentioning them. Breaking Away (1979) and American Flyers (1985) I haven't seen them but they look like fun and I am downloading them now.

What is this world coming to? I actually hadn’t heard that but the age is right. Add some color to Dave Stohler & switch Italian for Dutch and that was me in HS... MoseySusan Posted May 8, 2020 Author Share #15 Posted May 8, 2020 2 hours ago, dennis said: Isn't one of the Italian riders played by Christian Vande Velde's father? The answer is yes. "Speaking of the Italians, one of them was played by American track racer John Vande Velde, who was a two-time Olympian and National Champion cyclist, as well as the father of Christian Vande Velde, formerly of the U.S. Postal Team and the Garmin Team." Here's another very cool piece of trivia about the bike(s), especially the one that went endo. Turns out, it was a sears bike painted to look like a Masi. "A third bike was used in filming, but it was not a Masi -- it was a Sears Free Spirit, painted and decaled as a Masi, and used in a pivotal scene where an Italian racer shoves a frame pump into the spokes, sending Dave Stohler to the pavement. The bikes used by the Italian team were all Colnagos."
