MickinMD ★ Posted May 27, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 27, 2020 Right now, an episode of Star Trek the Next Generation is on. They've discovered a disabled alien vessel in a strange location. Captain Picard says to 1st Officer Riker, "No. 1, everything about this seems wrong." Riker replies, "Yes, it smells like a trap." So, who is selected to be beamed aboard the vessel as the away team to check it out? The 1st Officer, the Chief Engineer, and Data, the irreplaceable android - who mispronounces "Deuterium" on the mission! Meanwhile, the two chief security personnel don't go! Of course, since no non-regular cast member goes, you know no one's going to get killed - they only let Tasha Yar get killed because the actress who played her, Denise Crosby, appeared in Playboy without permission so they cut her out of the show.
Randomguy Posted May 27, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 27, 2020 They never made sense on the original show, either. I would have failed them all at the academy.
JerrySTL ★ Posted May 27, 2020 Share #3 Posted May 27, 2020 It's similar to the US Air Force and the rest of the services. For the most part, the Army, Marines, and somewhat the Navy send very junior officers and enlisted personnel into combat. The USAF mostly sends officers into combat. I liked being in the USAF.
