ChrisL Posted May 31, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 31, 2020 Yeah here too. Looting in Santa Monica, protests in Huntington Beach, so far no rioting but Huntington is about 8 miles from me.
MickinMD ★ Posted May 31, 2020 Share #3 Posted May 31, 2020 We've been very lucky in Baltimore. There were a few shop/bank windows/doors broken Sat. Nite but no one went into those buildings. One fire was set but was quickly put out. Of course, that's still a knock-on-wood statement in terms of the near future. No curfews have been imposed in Baltimore, but...."Reinforcements have been called in [from the State Police by the Baltimore Police] to assist in keeping Baltimore safe, officials said Saturday night. Police made the announcement after hours of peaceful protests in the city calling for an end to police brutality and systemic racism." Governor Larry Hogan Last night, Baltimore showed the nation how to assemble to promote positive change. I want to thank @mayorbcyoung, Commissioner Harrison, @BaltimorePolice, @MDSP, and the vast majority of demonstrators for their efforts to keep gatherings safe and respectful. 12:01 PM - May 31, 2020

shootingstar Posted May 31, 2020 Share #5 Posted May 31, 2020 Let's hope protestor gatherings doesn't trigger a large/deathly spike in covid.. There was a small protest gathering somewhere here in city ...in the rain. But it wasn't downtown.

maddmaxx ★ Posted June 1, 2020 Share #13 Posted June 1, 2020 The riots will not end now. Our government has declared war on the rioters and is sending in the active military under an interpretation of an early 1800 law. There will be a revolution.

From what I recall active duty troops were used in LA in the Rodney King riots. To be honest I’d rather see active duty military than national guard deployed for force protection. Local law enforcement can’t keep up the pace of activity much longer. Pull the cops off building security, let the military do it and have the cops focus on the unrest.
