What does this mean?

“NYK Bandits 07 NYK Bandits 12U”.

I get that Emmy pitched a complete game 4-0 shutout, and that the teams are 12 & under age, but are the Bandits comprised of secret agents earning the “07” status?

07 is the birth year of the girls.  So they play 12U ball.  (all girls are 12 or under by a certain day).  And they are all born in 2007.  This tourney was all 2007 and 2008 birthdays.  The Bandits is just the name of the team.

Can softball players “play up”?  My son wasn’t in travel programs at that age but played on 16 U teams as a 14 YO and 18 U teams as a 15 & 16 YO.

In baseball it’s fairly common for players to play up.

It's weird.  Many different sanctions.  USSSA, USFA, PGF, etc.  Most of the time you can play up but some are odd.  Like Emmy is registered in USSSA as a 12 "A" player.  So some states would not let her play 14 "B", it would have to be 14 "A".  USFA is not as strict.  And some places she could play down in 12 "B" even though she is registered "A" but she would have to bat last and not be allowed to pitch.  We just choose not to sub anymore.  If she plays up, it's with her whole team so there is no confusion.  We have played a 14U tourney, but it wasn't USSSA.

Just seems REALLY silly to write “NKY Bandits 07 Bandits 12U” every time when referring to the team. Seems redundant and repetitive.

The Smash House Premier U12 didn’t need to be referred to as the “Smash House Premier 07 Smash House Premier 12U”, did they?

I'd wager there might be a "news bot" behind the story?  That's becoming more and more common these days.

Hey, feel free to build a better bot (or write your own recaps)!

Correct.  This came from an App.  It's called gamechanger.  Allows you to score a game and anyone else that has it can keep up, in real time, with that team.  So it is a bot that came up with the story based on info plugged into GC.  Many times people name a team and then get confused and add on.  Like 12 U or 07, or whatever.
