Popular Post Further Posted July 6, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted July 6, 2020 Was sitting in the yard watching the day close The robins were checking out the worm situation, the other birds were up in the trees saying the bird version of "goodnight John boy" The swallows swooped around the yard, last patrol for any meaty bugs flying low. The light dimmed, the firefly's started up, got a lot more than I would expect as dry as it is. The birds in the trees quieted down, bats took the place of the swallows, the fireflies were everywhere, then they were scarce. Night has fallen, and I head into the house. Leaving the yard to the critters 5 1

I like mine more, and now I have a cat purring beside me.
Allen ★ Posted July 6, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2020 I may have a second synchronous species out here. They have a different flash pattern. The frontalis species (first described in 2015 btw) here will flash up to 30 times in unison. This possibly new species only flash once or twice together, but it happens frequently enough and in large enough numbers to be more than coincidence. I’m in contact with an entomologist out of Connecticut to see if it is new to taxonomy. 2

Mr. Silly Posted July 6, 2020 Share #6 Posted July 6, 2020 Fireflies like to fly up to Mrs. Grumpy and flash their abdomens at her. I think they're hitting on her.
