Popular Post az_cyclist Posted July 29, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted July 29, 2020 you give away a bike in the process? Last year I left my Trek 1500 in the Twin Cities to have a bike up here when we visit our son and his family. This year he decided to take up cycling (he is 38) and started riding the 1500. He talked about buying his own bike, but, then asked if I could ship my Domane 4.5 up here and we could ride together. We flew on Delta, and for now, Delta considers a boxed bicycle to be sports equipment and charges only $20 to check the bike, the same as golf clubs. So my son is eyeing the Domane 4.5 , and, would like to ride it. I have wanted a gravel bike (that could also double as a touring bike if necessary) for a while. So, the process begins to convince mrs_az_cyclist that this is a good thing. 5 3

Longjohn ★ Posted July 29, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2020 No problem, your son needs a bike. What kind of dad wouldn’t give him one? I have supplied my son, daughter in law, and their six kids with bikes. All Treks except the last one this year when Trek was sold out. 3
JerrySTL ★ Posted July 29, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2020 I think that you are spot on about N+1 and your son. My son has a road bike but lives near the crushed limestone Katy Trail. I gave him my touring bike (which has fatter tires than his road bike) and bought myself a gravel/touring bike (Breezer Doppler Team). A few months later I bought a tandem for WoJSTL and I. Maybe you should give that a try!

Near the Twin Cities many county roads have gravel sections. Having a gravel bike with 28mm or 32mm tires would be great for that. I can ride them on my 25mm tires, but, bigger is better.

No problem. I'll help you. We can take her out, get her drunk and agreeable, then play to her motherly instincts and tell her how much healthier your son will be due to the exercise. We can get get her on video giving her blessing...you know...just in case she denies it when she sobers up. 5

The new Tarmac does 32mm tires, so you aren't really going too far into the "wider is better" world if you are just looking for 28-32 sizes Go big, since reality shows you have the narrow end covered already, so might as well cover the wider end with the new bike. And, from a math perspective, I'm going with N-1+1 essentially remains N, so no harm, no foul, and no permissions required
