jsharr ★ Posted July 29, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2020 And they cannot idle the ships. The ships are all ready to go, but just have support crews on board to keep the systems in shape. You rest, you rust is especially true for a gigantic ship with miles and miles of pipes and wiring.

They took delivery of a $1.1 billion dollar ship in November of 2019 https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/21806-encore-closes-out-14-newbuilds-for-ncl-at-meyer-werft.html And that is just one of their ships. I don't think I will EVER want to go an a cruse. WoBG and I have never been on a cruise. Before the virus... we were considering a cruise. That was never very high on our list of things to do. Now it off the list for good. How many others not have the same opinion of going on a cruise? I'd bet a lot of people...

Yeah - like many things these days - restaurants, concerts, movies, casinos, mass transit, office cubicles, airplanes, etc., the COVID poses a real and present danger to socializing with people for more than a few minutes at a time. It will take a long time to return to normal. On the flip side, "1,200 Passengers Are Back On A Cruise Ship" (technically, they are already returned): The first large cruise ship is back in service as TUI's Mein Schiff 2 left on its first "Blue Cruise" from Hamburg with 1,200 guests aboard The TUI Cruises ship will not visit any ports but will sail near Norway for scenic cruising for three nights before returning to Germany. Capacity on the ship has been aggressively trimmed, with the vessel able to hold some 2,900 guests it will operate now with just 1,200 aboard following numerous new health and safety protocols. Likewise, there is a LOT of pent up demand just waiting for a vaccine to arrive: Azamara announced it is is seeing high demand for European sailings in 2021. In a survey sent to 6,000 Azamara loyalty members, almost 50 percent are eager to take a cruise in the next 12-months and over 40 percent of participants are willing to take flights longer than 10 hours, according to the cruise line. maddmaxx ★ Posted July 29, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted July 29, 2020 It's possible that they are canceling not because of safety,, but because they simply can't generate enough willing victims to pay the expenses.

But truly, 150,000 dead in the US NOT attributed to cruise travel. Less than a dozen Americans related to cruising. I'd say they reacted as well as possible to COVID, and were failed, at multiple times, by government inaction (looking mostly at Japan).

Hopefully a good vaccine can be developed. Tip: Always spend the money for a cabin with a balcony. That way if there's as issue like COVID (or electricity / plumbing failures), you can still get fresh air.

Only because most cruise ships don't have 350 million passengers.
