Being short, is not being noticed

I wear walking shorts when I bike...shorts like these below for even 50-100 km. rides. No the shorts, aren't padded which is probably very abnormal-sounding.  I can't wear knee/near knee length shorts in summer. Just too hot in for me. So these shorts work really well for me.  The material is very tough.  And our summers here are at most, 80-85 degrees F or less, with drier air.

Being short (5'1") means probably I can get away with wearing fairly short shorts and no one would really notice...because have shorter legs.  Older I get, I find this convenient, wearing shorter shorts and or skirts several inches about knee length is not shocking/noticeable on a short woman....in her early 60's. :)

Do you wear padded underwear or have you tried loose fitting MTB shorts? The seams on my non-cycling shorts would probably rub me raw after a few miles on a bicycle seat.

No. My shorts aren't that loose.

Still I'm probably a strange woman.

Um....confession:  I've never worn padded underwear nor padded cycling shorts/tights ...and I've been cycling for last 30 yrs.  Yea, I get abit raw um after a 100 km. touring ride. Need to rest.  Then 40 km. ride next day is better. Followed then by 75 km. ride, etc. Just giving an idea of how I dealt with self-loaded multi-day touring bike trips.

This is my bike saddle:

http://www.terrybicycles.com/Saddles/Womens-Saddles/Liberator-X-Gel_2   I ride a hybrid...all 3 bikes are hybrids. (Well, my folding bike is a hybrid version.)  So my cycling position is slightly more upright. It always has been.  Saddles are not aggressive racing profile since my bum can't take that type of hardness. However I can't stand wide/comfort lumpy saddles....those saddles scrape me.    .

....that’s not short.

Now 4’11” like my mom....THAT’S short!

That is true, I have a first cousin who is like that. She also has narrower hips than I.  She has 2 adult children.

Another woman just 2 years older than I, and also a cyclist, she is that height and slimmer than I.  BUT she weighs 110 lbs... alot of it is muscle, since she does some weights, cycles and jogs.   I'm approx. 100 lbs. I don't do any strength training unlike our petite muscle woman here with her military trainer-barker.
