Popular Post maddmaxx ★ Posted August 1, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted August 1, 2020 I left home at 8am this morning and that made me feel good as this was to be my first major outing since the virus struck. The drive up was good till the last block when I turned one light early and had to go around the block once more to find the entrance to the community college parking facility. I felt a bit let down by Waze as I thought she had given me a bad instruction but after going round the block I realized it was my mistake. That made me feel bad, but I was at least there at last. While they were setting up the christmas tree and finish line sensors I met lots of new friends. Everyone was good at keeping their distance from me as I was the only one wearing a mask. This was after I explained that at 74 I had to be very careful and they all agreed that you have to do stuff to protect yourself. This was good but during the day I lost my voice trying to hold conversations from 6 feet away. I got everything ready and began to make some tune up runs when I discovered that the place I race in is much cleaner and nicer that this track. My car was launching violently left and or right as I couldn't get traction on both tires at the same time. On one run I rolled it over on it's lid. That made me sad. The rest of the morning was spent with my new friends giving advice and help along with some of the settings they use. Most of the changes worked and by the noon I was able to get a straight pass from the car, and I have learned a number of things to work with in testing. I was pleased with the day and we hadn't even started racing as the christmas tree and timing system was throwing up because of the heat. (101 in the sun, no shade) This made me feel hot and indicated the beginning of the end. I was getting dizzy and weak even after 4 bottles of water and one ice tea. I remembered how nice it was to find facilities and then realized that by noon I hadn't used them once since leaving home. That made me feel worried so I went and sat in my car with the air on. Later I decided that it would be better to head home than to stay and race more. I don't remember how that made me feel and on the trip home I stayed in the right lane on the highway following the car in front of me. I'm home, beginning to feel better and I had a wonderful first trip out adventure. I need to get out more and get back in shape. I need to work on the car more, but I still don't have a time to measure my success against. I feel happy. The end. 7 7
Ralphie ★ Posted August 1, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2020 I skipped right to the end and was glad to see that you noted how it made you feel, and doubly glad that it made you feel happy. Now to read it.

maddmaxx ★ Posted August 1, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted August 1, 2020 I'm back. I came home, ate some cold pasta salad and drank more water. Then I napped and got up for a nice cool shower. There is nothing a good nap can't cure. 3

Masks basically protect others from you and we're not going to go to the trouble of wearing a mask and keeping others from catching COVID-19." You could look at it this way OR accept the fact the group were comfortable with each other, and he was a new comer and they did not respond very rapidly to the new person in their midst. It would be different if there were signs posted that you must wear a mask, and even then some folks still don't wear them in some of the grocery stores. Those without masks are young people and grumpy old bastards. I am not jesting.

Those without masks are young people and grumpy old bastards. I am not jesting. I will say that the core of the club is a very tight group complete with gatherings of multiple racers setting up their work tables in a horseshoe arrangement and sitting shoulder to shoulder under pop up canopies. Everyone was good about keeping a distance from me once I said that I was 74 and scared to death of the virus. The interesting thing about this aspect of the hobby is that IMO back in the day, there would have been real cars and street racing involved. The group buys insurance to cover the club so they can get permission to race at some of the venus they go to but I was shocked to find that many places charge from $600 to $1000 dollars for the use of an empty parking lot for a few hours. This community college was a free location but not as good a site as the one I posted videos from in Fall River Ma a week ago.

smudge ★ Posted August 2, 2020 Share #15 Posted August 2, 2020 I'm glad you had a good time. I wonder if you needed something like Gatorade or some Skratch Labs mix with all the sweating going on. Glad you made it home on one piece too. 😊
