Allen ★ Posted August 4, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2020 Did y’all know there was a French territory on y’all’s east coast? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Pierre_and_Miquelon There are a couple of islands France acquired back in the day and still has possession of. The 6,000 people who live there hold French citizenship and they use the Euro for currency.

Zephyr Posted August 4, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2020 Yes, been there and worked with their navy divers a few times when I worked out there. There is a big liquor, cigarette smuggling business from there to Newfoundland. Landed immigrants living in Newfoundland who had to leave the country every so often would overnight there Originally they actually did not occupy the islands but rather the west coast of Newfoundland. The logistics of two countries on the island was getting complex with little of the country actually surveyed so they agreed to take the islands and give up the west coast. The west coast still kept a lot of the french names from the french occupation
