An annoying ex cow-orker always used bullets and that was what they felt like, like I was getting shot with each of his bullets. It was annoying.

But, but your bullets are actually complete sentences!!

Yep. I sort of like this way:

  • I never knew we had bullets here;
  • I enjoy a tight bulleted list;
  • I hate it when people use periods (.) at the end of bullet statements;
  • I also enjoy the Oxford comma.

I don't like when sub-bullets use the same bullets as the bulleted items.

You are exactly right. They should be tabbed in and look different

The Panda and the Oxford Comma

PUBLISHED ON December 7, 2015

The Oxford Comma
is the source of much drama
among hyper-literary snobs,
but it’s inappropriate–
you’ll sound like you’re on opiates–
if it’s not the right tool for your jobs.

panda

Take the innocent panda:
nothing could be blanda
than his vegetarian diet
but if you over-commacize
I’ll be the first to criticize–
in fact, I’ll show you—let’s try it:

panda1

If this black-and-white bear
strolls out of his lair
and walks into a café,
then eats, shoots, and leaves,
some folks will grieve
at the lives that are lost that day.

panda2

But if the same ursa
in the preceding versa
instead, just “eats shoots and leaves,”
there’ll be no fired shots
which improves things a lot
and the panda will get a reprieve.

  • We used to have the NBA Bullets in Baltimore with Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, Wes Unseld and other stars..
  • Then they were moved to the Maryland suburbs of Washington where they began a long history of sucking.
  • Then they decided bullets were too violent so now they're the Wizards.
  • They still suck.
  • Period

I'm confused by that poem.  No one would put an Oxford comma (or ANY comma) between "eats shoots and leaves", unless they literally meant someone ate, then shot some folks, and then left (a la Goodfellows behavior).

Also, other than the extra comma (in some folks eyes), would some people like the Goodfellows' exchange of "eats, shoots, and leaves" less than "eats, shoots and leaves"?  I feel like the former is just that much nicer than the latter.

Maybe I'm nuts.
