Popular Post Square Wheels Posted August 8, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted August 8, 2020 Cat dragged me downstairs for her treats. Let her out on the back (enclosed) porch to bird watch. She's never been an outdoor cat, but thinks she is. A few turkey families came up near the door to view the cat. Then I decided to go out and fill the bird feeders. There were six moms and a dozen or so baby turkeys. They were very curious about what I was doing. I was up on my deck, so I dumped a cup of bird food over the railing. They came a waddling over, but only got so far, so I dumped so more over and went inside. Interesting dynamics between them. Two of the moms had older babies, four had very small ones. The moms and their older babies were kept away from the young babies by a sentry mom. She'd chase away the others. Then when the babies had their fill, they left and the moms with the older babies moved in. Senty mom returned, seemingly watching over the older babies and moms while they ate. I smiled a lot. 12 2 1

Airehead Posted August 8, 2020 Share #4 Posted August 8, 2020 Watching turkeys is one of my joys too. They definitely have rules.

groupw Posted August 8, 2020 Share #6 Posted August 8, 2020 We cross a creek popular with the turkeys multiple times on our southwest route. It’s unusual not to see them down there. One time I saw one perched atop a very tall tree! I thought it was an eagle or vulture until I go closer. We are starting to see some on our end of town more regularly. Couldn't use my camera because I'd need to open the window and it was in the bedroom with the sleeping wife. These are from my phone. If you look past the cat (Cookie) you can see one of them.
