Finally, someone can bring some facts into the discussion.

Sadly, the list doesn't include Charles Townsend from Charlie's Angles.

Gosh - these folks are sadly "old" money.  Would they even be considered rich anymore?  Like Bill Gates gives Daddy Warbucks level money away annually.

And why is it Daddy Warbucks and not Annie, but Richie Rich and not his father?

That article and list is from 2002.  Needs to be adjusted upward for inflation, interest income, etc.

The last Forbes "Fictional 15" was published in 2013. During each annual list, Scrooge McDuck was estimated to be richer and richer until he reached the top.  A lot of the estimates are made by comparing the kind of homes, parties, thrown, yachts owned, etc. that real people had during the same period in which the characters are portrayed.

Inflation is surely a big deal.

When I tell younger people I had a full, $9900/yr. graduate scholarship to IIT plus a $325/month tax free teaching assistantship beginning in 1973. they're not impressed.

When I tell them $9900 then is equivalent to $57,500 now and $325 then is $1900 now, THEN they're impressed.  "They paid you $1900/month tax free to go to school and teach two 4-hour lab classes per week? Wow! How can I do that now?"  I tell them to major in chemistry and then pay for pharmacy school for two years and they'll make more money.

Here's the last Forbes Fictional 15:

The criteria (https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidewalt/2013/07/31/the-2013-forbes-fictional-15/#3420c91567ff):

To qualify for the Fictional 15, we require that candidates be an authored fictional creation, a rule which excludes mythological and folkloric characters. They must star in a specific narrative work or series of works. And they must be known, both within their fictional universe and by their audience, for being rich.

2013 Forbes Fictional 15: The Drop-Offs

Net worth estimates are based on an analysis of the fictional character’s source material, and where possible, valued against known real-world commodity and share price movements. In the case of privately held fictional concerns, we seek to identify comparable fictional public companies. All figures are as of market close, April 1, 2012.

Final valuations are calculated with a grain of salt, and a willingness to break our own rules.

The list: (https://www.scoopwhoop.com/Richest-Fictional-Characters-To-Feature-In-Forbes-Magazine/):

Arguably the dopiest inclusion on this list (although a dead Smaug is odd, too).   And I thought the whole point was that it never was HER money. Went to her cousin she married, was then money to him from other sources, and then to her son (the heir), so not sure where she would be the one with the money.
