shootingstar Posted August 26, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 26, 2020 It's pretty f*cked...but I believe the shit that can happen, even now in the 21st century. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/25/realestate/blacks-minorities-appraisals-discrimination.html?action=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage So the couple removed their black art depictions, family photos and got their home listed more easily at $$$$ thousands of dollars more. Just to give an real example: My sister with her hubby were selling their house. She went for a walk while agent showed house. The real estate agent heard that customers didn't want to buy from Asians nor live near Asians. Oh yea, sister is married to my white brother-in-law...with an Anglo last name that my sister adopted when she married. Example 2: I told this to my real estate agent (who was white) when selling my condo in Toronto. She told me that prospective buyers look directory for "foreign" last names in condo buildings. Sometimes the person who seems so assimilated to you... experiences things differently because they have no choice unless they get surgery. Longjohn ★ Posted August 26, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 26, 2020 I always put “Human” on any forms that ask race. They are always trying to divide people, we are all people, quit trying to subdivide people into smaller groups one against the other.

HAHA One of the home sellers featured in this article...was a black aerospace engineer living in a very nice predominantly white neighbourhood this year. I gave 2 personal stories, DH. My sister was furious when she experienced it. I made sure her daughter knew this story. She would have been a preschooler at that time.

I don’t know Canadian race relations well enough but I honestly didn’t know it was a problem there. I mean Canadians are so nice...

I am certain that this disgusting practice is something that happens. It shouldn't. The world has a bunch of fucked up things in it. Sorry, I just loved your use of profanity. A well placed "fuck" or even "shit" from someone that rarely utters profanity has such an effect on people. I am with you. I like it.
Randomguy Posted August 26, 2020 Share #10 Posted August 26, 2020 I wouldn't want to live in a house that anyone from any race, political party, or nationality had ever lived in. Yuck.

JerrySTL ★ Posted August 26, 2020 Share #12 Posted August 26, 2020 SS if you want to drop some more F-bombs, read up on resumes and names especially especially a few years ago when creating unique names was in vogue within the black community. donkpow Posted August 26, 2020 Share #13 Posted August 26, 2020 I think we need to really dial this in. Let's say you are peceived as being white and in fact are white. Will you receive a higher appraisal? Also, will @shootingstarcontinue to swear like a stranded truck driver? Thanks.
maddmaxx ★ Posted August 26, 2020 Share #14 Posted August 26, 2020 The house will be worth a lot more once the neighborhood has been gentrified.

Sometimes the person who seems so assimilated to you... experiences things differently because they have no choice unless they get surgery. There was a guy in my mother's neighborhood who personally bought every home that went up for sale to try to prevent minorities from buying in. Of course, that led to him renting the houses out to people less concerned about keeping up the property, etc.! When my mother died, he asked me to let him by the house if I was going to sell, but I bought my siblings out, sold my house, and downsized into my late parents' house. Across the street from me was a loud, foul mouthed, "White trash" group with about 15 people and several cars living in the house. Eventually they were foreclosed on and a Hispanic Family, who speak Spanish among themselves. At first the only two people in the neighborhood going out of their way to make friends with the Hispanics were me and Ron - a childhood friend of mine who also bought his childhood home and live next-door to them. Considering who they replaced, I thought they'd be warmly welcomed! They've improved their property and when I had my house fire on Mar. 3, as I stood coatless and shivering in the middle of the night, guess who came out with a chair, blanket, and water for me? The Hispanic family!
