There is no reason that vampires shouldn't be able to withstand the sun

There you go @Randomguy, you're going to have to defer to his obviously superior knowledge of such things.

You can lead a horse donkey to water but you can't make him drink!  I just showed him he's got 10 hours of movie learning that can answer his vampire questions readily.  He could go the shortcut route and just watch Tom 'Terrific" Cruise in Interview With The Vampire, but that's only if he has a thing for Anne Rice type vampires (but I bet RG would enjoy Rice's Exit to Eden movie more).

Unicorns, yes.  Vampires, no.

So was Twilight not a tv series?

Hmm :scratchhead:  Maybe someone of your degree of stupidity intelligence might need to begin with the Buffy series before advancing to the mentally-challenging Twilight stuff.  You'll get there, grasshopper!

Are you thinking of Vampire Diaries?  That series came out around the same time as the Twilight movies and was quite popular with the same audience. True Blood was in the same era but for an older crowd.

Seriously, is this ever adequately explained?  Plus, you know, clothing and sunscreen, so wth is the deal?

The reason why vampires are naturally weak against the sun started at the time of the Originals, when the witch Esther used the sun's life aspect and the White Oak tree's immortality to make her family live forever and be able to protect themselves. Sunlight is harmful but not fatal to Originals, however, Esther created the very first daylight rings.

Some vampires have spelled daylight jewelry with Lapis Lazuli; these rings must be forged by witches because the lapis itself is simply a stone. It protects them from the sunlight. So long as the vampire wears it in the sun, he or she can't die from exposure. Both Stefan and Damon Salvatore are in possession of rings containing lapis lazuli which protect them from the harmful effects of the sun. However, without such a ring sunlight will burn a vampire on contact.

Vampires are made up shit. The fact that they can’t stand the sun is part of that made up shit. It’s like Star Wars or Dr Who; when they get to a point of implausibility they make shit up to fit the story line.

Hmmm.  Seems like there is something similar but even more pervasive than Star Wars of Doctor Who :scratchhead:

Do you have any proof of this?

If they can't be seen in a mirror but can be seen by eyes, there's some real serious stuff going on in terms of reflected light waves.

No waves reflecting of the mirror and into the eyes means there's something going on that stops light from reflecting off a vampire in certain situations.

For them to get harmed by the Sun, that might mean all of the Sun's strongest (Blue, Violet, UV) are being absorbed and none reflected and that might be too much.

That's all I've got to say about light radiation physics this evening.
