Wtf is turf toe?

It's a very common injury in football, usually with wide receivers.

It's a strain of the ligaments where the big toe meets the foot, caused by bending the big toe upward too much.

I know the name goes back to at least around 1990, because I a high school Varsity Softball outfielder I coach complained to me one day, "Coach, I think I have turf toe."

It seemed mild and I told her to go home after practice and put ice wrapped by a wet cloth on it for 3 rounds of 15 min on, 15 min off (that helps pump dead/bad material out of the capillaries) for the next few days.  That either worked or she figured it was more pain than it was worth to complain about.
