Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted September 18, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2020 I agree with the survey respondents. My main reason for violating traffic laws is to preserve my life. Safety first. If the intersection is clear, I go. If not, I take the action that will most likely result in staying above ground and out of hospitals.
Dirtyhip Posted September 18, 2020 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2020 I rode on the sidewalk yesterday on this one section of my commute. I do not care. A cop has watched me do this as I wave at them. It's cool. They get it.
ChrisL Posted September 18, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2020 I generally follow traffic laws. I usually roll a stop sign if it’s clear and so slow to ensure that it is clear. I always stop at red traffic lights. Yesterday on our ride my friend wanted to go back the way we came in for more single track. I told him the trail is clearly marked one way and all it takes is for one person to screw it up for everyone so best to follow the signs. He was bummed but understood. Randomguy Posted September 18, 2020 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2020 I simply don't respect the law enough to follow it.

Longjohn ★ Posted September 19, 2020 Share #7 Posted September 19, 2020 The main rule I break is the walk your bike rule. It is an anti-safety rule in most cases. Bikes are designed to be ridden. Bike shoes are not designed for walking. Walking your bike through an intersection puts you in harms way for a longer time than riding. Walking your bike takes up more space because when you ride you share the space with your bike but when you walk along side your bike you take up twice as much space. If I wanted to walk I wouldn’t bring my bike.
