Razors Edge ★ Posted September 21, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 21, 2020 I don't do yard work. I spend my weekends and evenings doing fun stuff, so I'm really not in tune with the rhythms of being tied to yard work. Does the blessed arrival of Autumn free you folks to go out and enjoy the shorter days during the few sunlit hours and warmish temps?
jsharr ★ Posted September 21, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 21, 2020 Nope. Grass grows until October or November in Texas. Will have to mow two more times I imagine. Then time to prune while oaks and crepe myrtles are dormant Dec - Feb.

I bet @donkpow (or even @DonkeyDong!) will trade you a glamping experience for some help pruning stuff! He might even have a chipper in his garage! Kzoo Posted September 21, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 21, 2020 Pfffft NO. Grass to cut for the next several weeks, beds to put to bed (trimming ornamental grasses and such), mountains of leaves to clear starting in about 4 weeks (later every year). Some of the elm leaves were coming down this weekend. I have tree limb to trim and maybe a couple trees to fell. I dropped a 70 ft elm on Saturday that is cleaned up and stacked for the future owner. Lots of yard stuff to do yet.
team scooter Posted September 21, 2020 Share #5 Posted September 21, 2020 Three, maybe four more weeks of mowing here in SE Wisco or until we get a couple of good hard freezes. Then a few more mows to mulch the leaves in December. Interestingly during the mid summer drought, we'll usually get a few weeks break from mowing. This year it never stopped raining. smudge ★ Posted September 21, 2020 Share #6 Posted September 21, 2020 Leaves are still on the trees. They'll have to be raked up. After that, the snow will start. Then there will be that yardwork.
Guest Posted September 21, 2020 Share #7 Posted September 21, 2020 Will need to mow a couple more times and finish putting the gardens to bed. Will cut a few loads of dead locust to burn this fall and need to move firewood into the shed.
donkpow Posted September 21, 2020 Share #8 Posted September 21, 2020 Mowing never ends. We are in a dry, cool spell. The grass doesn't grow as quick but the weeds continue undeterred.

Dirtyhip Posted September 21, 2020 Share #10 Posted September 21, 2020 No. We still need to do some painting, seed the grass for Fall and clean the gutters.

I'm guessing @Randomguy can relate. I wonder if he has any gutters to clean out or a reason to bring out the 30' extension ladder and check the roof? MickinMD ★ Posted September 21, 2020 Share #12 Posted September 21, 2020 I have one hard week of yard work, then maybe a little more cutting branches to fit in my brother-in-laws truck to haul to the landfill/recycling center or pay someone to haul it away. Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted September 21, 2020 Share #13 Posted September 21, 2020 Mow until the leaves get too thick to mow. Then blow them out to the street for collection in November, December and January.
Scrapr ★ Posted September 21, 2020 Share #14 Posted September 21, 2020 It was over before I started. 2 words...Lawn Service. BAM! Ok, I did take out about half the sunflowers & tied up the rest. And trimmed some little bushes next to the patio walk. All to get ready for selling the house. It goes live on MLS on Friday. That not soccer either. The lawn service gets through about end of October. There is usually 1 rake job after they end. A few garbage cans that i dump in the empty lot across the street

Dottleshead ★ Posted September 21, 2020 Share #16 Posted September 21, 2020 Yeah I probably have a mow or two -- and that's just to cut the heads off the dandylions.
Mr. Silly Posted September 21, 2020 Share #17 Posted September 21, 2020 I have another month of mowing. Leaves haven't really started falling yet. The lawn usually needs something through the beginning of November.
Ralphie ★ Posted September 21, 2020 Share #18 Posted September 21, 2020 Mowing through November or so and then leaves through December.

Ohhh, if the house is going on the market those dandilions have to go. First impressions. I's suggest a do over. Till it up & throw some sod out there. Plant a few shrubs. Curb appeal Assume that you will spend elenventy to get the house in shape for the market

It’s supposed to be nice all week, I’ll work at it. Today we had lots of hospice visits. Now I need To go make supper.
