I use Safari on the iPhone and it is OK.  I use to us it on the MacBook but it got infected once many years ago.  Viruses on the Mac tend to all stay in the application so if you do get one it's usually easy to deal with.  Delete the app and reload the app.  That doesn't work so well with base apps like Safari that get loaded with the OS.  You can't easily kill it off and reload jut that app.  So I went to Chrome and use Firefox as a backup browser.  I ignore Safari.  Every couple years Chrome gets flakey.  I send the app to the trash can, go to Firefox, install Chrome, done.
