Photo stuff

I just started photography last year. Blown away by this picture from my parents backyard.  In the iPhone pic, you can’t even see that there is a street sign just to the left of the house. With my real camera ($425) you can read the road sign. We estimate that the lake is 1/3 of a mile wide.

Phones have replaced point and shoot pocket cameras but you still can't beat the optics of a full size camera.

Yep.  Phones are the 95% solution. Then regular Point & Shoots where the optical zoom and larger megapixel & dedicated photo processors stuff takes the next 96%-99%.  Then, DSLR or the Sony mirrorless kick in for the final 1%.  It's often really about needs vs budget.   Most folks have the phone in their pocket or purse, and don't need studio quality pics, but when you do want/need that, there is no comparison to someone who knows what they are doing with their DSLR and appropriate lens choice.  Add in a person skilled in photo software, and the differences are quite obvious.
