My brother in-law (84) and my sister in-law (82) (WoBGs sister) both were just diagnosed with the virus today.    Of course since they were sick 2 days ago their son in-law took them to for the testing.  Now he and is wife get to be quarantined for 14 days.

They are doing relatively OK for now....

Seeing a big spike here. There was a rally on 9-3.......

Seems to be spiking a lot of places.  We already had the big spike, not looking forward to round 2 that most places around the world are experiencing.  It is probably coming at some point, though.  At least most folks here are smart enough to wear masks and we don't have the asinine rallies that are in other areas, so it might not be as bad as in some other parts.  We do have 8 million tightly-packed in people, though, we will see what happens.

I'm not sure what they did to get the virus.  But.... if i had to guess, one thing they did from time to time, was go to the gambling boat/casino in Peoria or Joliet.  Of course, they probably think WoBG and I are crazy for going out to eat once or twice a week.   Or maybe someone at a grocery store got them sick.  You never really know.  Especially when there is possibly a 2 week delay in before showing symptoms.

Even before the virus...  I just never understood why anyone would go out and gamble.  WoBG would get a story about how much money they won from time to time.  I'd ask.... what about all of the other times they lost money? You never hear about that?   I guess we all have a different definition of what is a fun thing to do...     I just can't imagine plaguing a slot machine after someone else who was sick.

Over the next few days... we see how bad (or good) this goes.

Of course we offered to go out and buy groceries, etc.. for all of them.  They all should stay home for at least 14 days.

I think indoor dining with the knowledge we have marks you as actively courting the virus, no question at all.   I wouldn't do it, and I would do a lot of things.

Stay safe!

I hope they handle it well.

Johns Hopkins Hospital says it has reached the point where they can tell if admitted patients are going to get worse. I think that's true across the country (world?) so the death rates are way down.

In March-May, about 1 in 10 people aged 70 in Maryland who caught COVID-19 died.  Now it's something like 1 in 30.  I think it's a combination of the most fragile dying early leaving more healthy people to catch it later and the healthcare technical improvements.

I’ve seen these rallies referred to as Covid Super PACs.

A bunch of states (PA included) now have Covid tracer apps for your smart phone. They will alert you if spent time near someone who later tested positive, prompting you to isolate and get tested. The more people who have it, the more accurate it will be.

I'm sure the anti vaxer/anti maskers will rush right out to get it.
