maddmaxx ★ Posted October 25, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 25, 2020 knees or ankles? Some years ago when I was still refereeing I developed some considerable trouble in the achilles tendons that required constant stretching. After stretching I used to have to do about 4 laps around the soccer field before the game. Each time I got up from a chair the first few steps would be painful. Finally I took up walking every day, quickly and concentrating on rolling over the ball of the foot to get maximum stretch in the tendon. About a summer of that and the problem finally went away. Rattlecan ★ Posted October 25, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2020 I got that long before I was 64. Once I'm up and moving I'm OK, but a couple of hours of immobility and it's like I have rigor mortis. My first trip down the stairs in the morning is one step at a time.
petitepedal ★ Posted October 25, 2020 Share #5 Posted October 25, 2020 you should hear my trainers comments when I sometime groan getting up from the floor... Whatever you do..KEEP MOVING..stretches, walking, weights, whatever..the more you move (within reason) the body will loosen up and..yeah..keep moving
Longjohn ★ Posted October 25, 2020 Share #6 Posted October 25, 2020 With all my issues I’m glad at least I don’t have that. I showed restraint when my gun safe was delivered and didn’t move it myself. It sat on the wheelchair ramp for two days because I knew my son was coming over.
sheep_herder ★ Posted October 25, 2020 Share #7 Posted October 25, 2020 Welcome to my world, and it gets worse with a sprained ankle. Not too bad if I wear my braces all the time, but I like to shed them at night.
team scooter Posted October 25, 2020 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2020 I've got knee issues. I'm especially reminded while crawling around on the floor fetching dog toys from under furniture. Luckily Mrs bought the heaviest, most overly built living room tables that I can use to lift myself up.

I pull myself up on the hay on the sled or in the cart. Life goes on!! 1

Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted October 25, 2020 Popular Post Share #15 Posted October 25, 2020 When my boys were little and I was driving truck I didn’t get home from work very early. We would have supper as soon as I got home and then I would walk with the boys down to the swimming hole. For some reason the farmer that owned the pasture we had to cross divided the pasture into sections meaning we had to go under or over many electric fences. There were no livestock in any of the sections. The boys would crawl under the fences, I would usually just step over (I have long legs). I suspected the fence wasn’t turned on but didn’t take any chances. The one evening by the time we were done swimming it was quite dark. As we walked across the pasture it was hard to see the fences. Usually I look for a low spot on the fence to step over. It was too dark to find a low spot, as I stepped over the wire with my wet swim shorts I felt the wire drag across my groin. I didn’t get shocked but I decided I needed to find out once and for all if the fence was live. I didn’t want to grab it with my hand because the path of electricity would go up my arm, down through my body and down my leg into the ground. I was pretty sure the fence was off. I leaned my hip up against the wire so if it was on the charge would just go down my leg to ground. All was fine for a couple seconds and then it cycled. That knocked me right on my ass when it cycled. Those weed burner fences are not like your grandfather’s electric fence. My boys were laughing so hard they couldn’t talk. Then they said: “Hey dad, I think the fence is on.” 1

groupw Posted October 25, 2020 Share #17 Posted October 25, 2020 My ankles pop all the time. My knees sometimes. Arthritis in my big toe and a bit of plantar fasciitis. Sometimes the first steps of the day are pretty rough. However, there is something that says if you can get to the floor cross-legged and back up without grabbing anything, you are still good. So far, I can still do it..

If I don't walk, run, or bike for a few days, my knees hurt something terrible.

Current studies state that running actually helps the body lubricate the joints.

Goode Pointe. Mine was after mowing the lawn and walking the dog. A day’s rest and I am back to normal.

Yeah, I used to walk like Will Sonnett until I got assigned to the project this year. +10k steps a day has cured what ailed me.

Kzoo Posted October 26, 2020 Share #29 Posted October 26, 2020 65 and I have my days. Sunday was one of them after over taxing the back on Saturday. About once a month I wake up with a very stiff back - walking a bit hunched over. A few stretches help. A few more stretches helps more. If I keep moving and not sitting wrong it's good to go. I was doing fine by mid-late morning.

Open highway where I can set the cruise control helps as I can periodically flex my leg & knees or reposition in the seat and stretch my back a bit. Sitting is just plain shitty for us and I do that a lot as part of my work day. Luckily, at home, I drink a lot of water (so get up to pee a lot) and my pup pesters me for attention and walks as well.
