Popular Post Dirtyhip Posted October 26, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted October 26, 2020 They might be hired on Friday. Assuming all goes well with our next meeting, we will be on our way to a build. I am super excited. The guys there are nice and I believe they will do a good job. I have seen their work. We went with a large commercial builder and not a small company. This place has their own crews that do pretty much everything. This controls scheduling issues much better. There were things that we are having to cut corners on. Countertops and cabinets will be lower expense stuff. Quartz and sold wood cabs are insanely expensive. We also opted for a comp roof. Metal roof broke the bank. It's fine, cause comp roofing is actually a very good product. It is actually much better for water anyway. Punch a hole in a metal roof for piping, and you better look at it every couple of years to make sure it remains waterproof. We went for concrete siding that looks like board and batt. Simple nice vinyl windows, no Pella windows though. Front door will be Fiberglass 3/4 lite with sidelights. Vinyl waterproof flooring instead of wood. I am over using wood in the kitchen. It damages too easily, IMHO. Doors will be hollow core, white 5 panel style. Septic is being installed as I type. Home excavation should be done now too. 4

I do know how to bake quite well. Good tip. Keep 'em coming, Scrapr. I am also doing my best to show that we are not the typical pain in the ass client as well. We are easy going.
Airehead Posted October 28, 2020 Share #11 Posted October 28, 2020 We brought our guys things they could eat without utensils and plates. Cookies, cupcakes, hand pies, sub trays, ect... I wanted them to care about their work but not have to stop to eat the treat and find a fork and all that. Much of the work on our place was done in the fall and winter. Until there was electric, I always kept a cooler there with a help yourself sign--- water, Mt Dew, Coke and other things I had seen empty bottles of as they worked. When we moved in they left us a box with extra supplies-- all neatly labeled. They also left us a bottle of wine and some chocolate for our first night in the house. Not sure who thought of that. 1

I never complained. Just asked if he wanted cash, and he was very excited about 2000+ in cash. He said we were the easiest clients in a long time. We only made 3 design changes from his original sketch..
