Digital_photog ★ Posted October 29, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 29, 2020 Isn't it early for new lambs? We put the rams in with the ewes Sept 15 but I don't expect any lambs till at least early March. This year the first one was March 31. All the rest were born in a 3 day period. April 20 -22. As I've mentioned before, we run the rams with the ewes year round. Yes, this is early, as we normally start lambing in December. Different strokes for different folks. We have done it this way for years, as we really do not have a good place to isolate the rams. We like to have a nice set of lambs to sell in June/July. Early lambs can result from many factors relative to the ewe, and weather can affect both ewes and rams to breed early in the spring and summer,
Digital_photog ★ Posted October 29, 2020 Share #6 Posted October 29, 2020 Shetland sheep you can leave the rams with the ewes till about September. Then if you don't want early lambs you need to remove them. We separated them in August to make sure we didn't have any lambs before we wanted them. Digital_photog ★ Posted October 29, 2020 Share #7 Posted October 29, 2020 I saw some ewe interest in the rams last week so about the earliest we will see lambs is mid March.
